If thats not bragging I don't know what is. You're an even bigger blowhard than I thought. . I didnt think was being a blowhard, if it was true. Did I mention that I was 3rd on the team in receptions, and have 2 game balls? Also, you placing so much emphasis on a single insignificant run against a ...

Re: Ames Study For Trial Dogs and Bird Finds
A wild bird dog is developed by experience with wild birds. By a person that understands wild bird hunting. That simple. Trials of all types; Cover dog, wild grouse trials, NSTRA, AKC, AF, all give you a handle on the type of dog( That has produced that pup you want) and weather or not it has a ver...

Re: Ames Study For Trial Dogs and Bird Finds
You have no basis to argue so why do you bother commenting? I can darn sure argue the merits of breeding as it relates to trial vs hunting dogs. I owned a trial bred dog, remember? Ive been to 3 trials personally. Ive spoken to trialers, seen their dogs, and spoken of their dogs and testing. Should...

Ultra, I didn't mean to rub you the wrong way and I'll not say anything after this, but I just wanted to set the record straight that I'm not trying to train dogs just to make a few bucks. I've been training dogs since I was 12 and owned a mobile dog training business (just pet obedience) in the Da...

How many moons ago was that? Do you know the likes of Bob Pettit or Tom Schwertsfeger? Well I just got a male setter puppy so if you can wait 2 years, you can breed to him. :D Yahoo, you seem so "well versed" in everything. Just wondering who you are. Re: Anyone consider patterning kennel after a Foxhound kennel?
It would be hard to know who's who. Aftet watching Ferrel Millers video and the amount of pups that looked alike i can see why the mixup happened with him. It seems like he wanted to have many to select from. I have multiple females and once one comes into heat a bunch more will quickly follow. I c...

Re: Anyone consider patterning kennel after a Foxhound kennel?
At some of the big pointer breeders it's similar. Keith Wright has about 50 young dogs all in a fenced in area maybe an acre with a couple sheds they live in for shelter. Sheds are like 12 X 12 storage type you can get at Lowes. Miller has same type set up for young dogs , as well as Huffmans.

If anyone thinks they are going to make money in this bird dog thing they are dreaming. If they consider all the time input in training, feeding, trialing, all their expenses, they will find loosing money comes much more frequently than making money. Define "make money." Think about the time and expense involved. If they have to drive 11/2 hours one way to the Airport, Two trips. Pay for their fuel, feed and board the female for a couple weeks, breed the bitch. They have at least 8 hours into it and the other expenses. Then it takes away from the time they would be...

How do you know if it is not on the male? Males to go sterile all the time. I know Jet is older. Do you just automatically assume it was the female? Re: English Setter Studs
This is especially true if the stud is with a pro. The reason being, most pros do not like to mess with it even if they get the stud fee. It takes a lot of time, another dog to care for, a trip to the airport or possibly 2, fuel, feed. Sorry, this makes no sense. Pros are in this to make money. Why...

That sounds like a lot of what ifs. How do you justify spending that kind of money to breed without getting something out of it. Re: English Setter Studs
Generally it takes three pups to make a legitimate breeding,if your bitch forked over 8 the last go around and it wasn't 4 years ago ............ one would assume that a breeding would net pups. I myself as well as others I know would hold the stud fee check under a magnet on the fridge until the w...

Really? Never have heard of any of his pups winning a trial. He may be a great trial dog but it sounds like this guy is looking for a proven producer. Go to a dog that has produced a high % of winners. AF will give you the info on specific dogs.Petroplex Hunter wrote:Shadow Oak Bo is tough to beat right now

There is a Setter stud producing dogs that are winning in all venues. From cover dog to West coast AA. They hunt, handle, are very fancy running and on point. American Field shows a win % of 26% of registered dogs have placed in trials. These are phenomenal numbers considering most registered dogs a...

Brucelosis test 60.00 OFA Thankfully this is once but still 130.00. I'm glad to hear someone mentioning health tests. Then why wouldn't a person cull the Low style dog. Or at least castrate him. Surely they haven't bred him. Most Setter folks are tring to breed away from dogs that look like that when they are pointing.

Typing dog lineage is not that easy to follow so I'll start with an explanation.......... dogs are "By " a male and "Out of" a female.......You can build a tree and fill in the branches to see it as it would appear in pedigree form. So Jetsetter is By Ch High Definiton and out of Barnhill lacey, HD...

I am going to go on a limb and sa that if it is a jetsetter bred pup, it is not from Open Range kennel. If that pup is in oklahoma or kansas (aka....owner is from that region), odds are that the female is heavy in See Johnny Run or TM Patriot. Jason Patty of skyview setters has bred to jet a few ti...
