Bill, I think, the 'fear of sitting' you're inquiring about is mostly related to a dog being (over)pressured in training or handling and sitting ON point. You don't put too much pressure on your digs :) so you never saw them sit on point :)

how much is it bothering you? Only you can decide if you'd try fixing it, after considering the cost and the risks. If you do it yourself, you can screw your relationship with the dog forever, esp 5 yo. Someone you pay to do it can screw it up too. So it'd be important to find a trainer you trust. G...

I love x-c skiing and dogs love winter and pulling, so it's a no brainer.
I use home made harness and dollar store bungee. I bought quick release buckle off e-bay, but haven't used it yet.

I took her to the vet today for something else.
She said it does look like allergy, starting to get infected, she said either wait or use some steroid spray on it.
I got steroid with AB spray just in case.

Thanks, Sharon. I don't laundry my dogs ;) Seriously, I don't wash them or their bedding, unless it's an emergency. Recently we've been having lots of emergencies and then I wash them with baby shampoo or baby laundry detergrent for the bedding, but it all started well before that... I keep thinking...

I know Bracco owned by NAVHDA judge. I think he mentioned water work wasn't easy with him.
He did get at least PII UT IIRC.

trekmoor, that's one of them 'continental' differences :)
AFAIK in America dogs are not trained to quarter neither it's evaluated in testing and trialing :wink:
in any case, it's not giving nearly as much attention as in (most of) Europe.

I tethered chukars and pigeons and let them walk in front of the dog, if they walk away or try to fly away - pull back with the tether and repeat. I didn't do it enough though :lol: Consider multiple birds - at UT test 2 chukars were running in front of my dog....

Even if you hide a treat, it helps developing pup's nose. I haven't done it with the current pup though...
Some old books recommend placing treats higher than pup's head to develop high head/air scenting...

I believe in exposure and natural development.
The dog has to learn to hunt (search) and handle wild bird, unless you plan on hunting pigeon in launchers all the time. So develop, expose, take time, then teach the dog manners on planted birds IF you don't have access to wild ones. My theory :-)
