Re: GSP Starting from 18 months....go
Being easily distracted is just a shorthair being a shorthair, don't worry about that too much. It sounds like you are on the right track as far as bonding and spending time together. Once you have the connection, the dogs sole purpose in life will be to please you and take an interest in what you a...

Re: GSP puppy what food
After I brought her home at 10 weeks she started eating 4Health performance. I fed her that until she was roughly a year old then switched to Momentum. Her coat remains pristine through all seasons.

Have a few that she rotates through. During the summer/training she is normally in a Day-Glo lime green 1" O ring with a reflective strip. During the hunting season she wears a blaze 1" O ring by Remington.

Re: FEELING LIKE WE FAILED JERSEY AND HER BREEDER..
so sorry to hear about yall's situation ruth. To me it sounds like your best bet is to find a co-owner, or just someone who is looking for an extra hunting buddy for a year but has the extra room in the kennel. My guess is with the network of trainers/enthusiast here you should be able to find that ...

GWP would be hard to beat. they r great retievers. I will say though, with a vest and a dry/warm spot to rest in between retrieves, u would be urprised what a duck crazed gsp can do.

Re: Garmin acquires Tritronics
From what i have seen and heard from my local distributor is that the new sportdog still isn't very good. The "gps" features aren't really even that. nothing compared to the astro at least. He said the sportdog just shows you where you are in relationship to your dog, no topo or real gps or anything...

IMO that doesn't show off my favorite sport by any means. I would prefer it just not get outside attention at all rather than have it portrayed like that.

If you don't think the same thing happens with horses... Three Bars, King Leo...[/quote] Well then that is just as much of a shame! I would still contend though that it is less frequent than dogs. Re: Perpetuation of a line
I'm well aware. I'm saying because of this though, you dont have the problem of some average joe buying a young'n and trying to continue the line.(not saying it cant but considering horse prices and how infrequently they reproduce.) wheras you could have 8 potential studs from a litter of pup. Obvio...

Re: Perpetuation of a line
HORSES ARENT DOGS! what is the largest litter size you have ever seen in horses?....not comparable at all if you ask me. There is going to be a plethora of variation in EVERY dog litter bred. Where a horse will give birth to one potential champion at a time.

Re: Perpetuation of a line
So mouch more goes into selecting breeding partners other than having 2 "good" dogs from the same breeder. A breeder's lines are theirs and theirs alone. Only they can make the decisions on what kind of temperments, conformation and overall "value" of a dog(in reference to their goal in breeding the...

Thanks everyone! The more time I spend with her the more I'm loving my little girl. Luckily i have a dog hunting wholesaler wi...

Hey guys, i have been a hunter for most of my life and just picked up my first gundog on thursday. She is a liver GSP. I tried to do my homework before deciding on the litter wanted. She is currently 10 weeks and is an absolute DREAM!(and the best couch cuddler.) We are mainly going to hunt grouse i...

I was under the impression that the ackwright was added to the german standard for an eye color variation. which never worked and is now why there are black gsp's in DK's. idk though. i am probably wrong. anyone know?

GWP or GSP all the way. If concerned about cold might want to lean towards a wirehaired
I'm partial to GSP's myself though. Should be easy to find good lines that will naturally point as well as retrieve to hand. Even seen some pretty respectable duck dogs made out of them...
