Re: Pointerguy from Sweden

Hi, and, yes, we have definitely had Scandinavian Pointers over here. The sire of the first US Dual Champion Pointer was a Norwegian dog - Ruten's Continuation (Oksby Fly x Soma) and he is found in many Pointer pedigrees over here. The Swedish dogs behind my first dog both came from Tegews Kennel. A...

Re: Pointerguy from Sweden

Hi Petter, Welcome...and, no, not all American pointing dogs point with their tails straight up : ) I know that Pointers in every other country in the world do not have high tails. Some here in the US prefer a higher tail than found in other places, which the dogs also carry when they are not pointi...

Re: Temperment Testing

The most common temperament test is probably this one, the PAT: http://www.workingdogs.com/testing_volhard.htm You can hire someone to do it, or try it yourself. IMHO, If you're not a skilled trainer/dog behaviorist, hiring one is better. I found a really experienced trainer that has done mine since...

Re: Looking for quail

I'm looking for the same in the southwestern PA or PA-OH-WV tri-state area. I have made several phone calls to game bird sellers - nothing. Any one know anyone who has quail right now?

Re: MH as qualification for National Field Championships?

I agree with your remarks. I get kinda tired of grinning and bearing it when those of us who have worked for many years and spent many dollars to produce and field trial "AKC" dogs get knocked. It's a tough row to how. We have to compete at all-breed AKC trials which do include dual-registered dogs....

Re: MH as qualification for National Field Championships?

Hi there, How is posting a written AKC rule "starting a rumor"? I don't understand. Different clubs can allow the MH as a qualifier - or not - to enter their NFC, and that is what my question relates to, not what the requirements are to earn the NFC title. I'm only talking about qualifications to en...

Re: MH as qualification for National Field Championships?

After reading responses, would anyone's answer change if your breed club's NFC attracted, say, 12 & 18 entries, respectively, in the past two years?

MH as qualification for National Field Championships?

Hi all, I wanted to gather some input on this topic. Maybe it's been addressed before, but I couldn't find it. Do you agree or disagree with item (2) below allowing the MH title as a qualifier for NFC's? It is effective for years starting 1-1-11. I'd be very interested in hearing feedback as to what...

Re: New to pointing dogs

Hi there, Please don't take this the wrong way, but you would probably benefit from a knowledgeable pro helping you with a training "road map." Books are helpful but have limitations if you don't how how and when to apply techniques. It sounds as though you expected your dog to just "go grouse hunti...

Re: Full tail or Docked... please educate me

Having had Pointers for a long time, I have found that the best thing to stop tails from bleeding is to brush on some Nu-skin liquid bandage. It's very inexpensive and you can find it at about any drugstore. I've tried other remedies - most of which fell off - but this stuff coats the skin and helps...

Pointer owner from Pittsburgh

Hi all, Glad to see some of the good discussions on this site, so am now joining it. I am currently owned by 3 Pointers and am also a breeder that aims for Dual Champion quality dogs with top working abilities. My first Pointer was a DC/MH and after, a lot of work and research, I've had the good for...
