I believe first would have been Yellow of the fad colors. Although Chocolate and Yellow date back to the 1800's they were generally culled. I guess I meant first in my personal history. I think the Garmin Alpha is the most well known at the moment. SportDOG has the TEK 2.0. There are two models, a base model that is GPS only and a combination trainer/GPS like the Alpha. I've heard good things so far. Price point is about the same as the Alpha, too.

If you know the basics of heal training with a Wonder lead or choke chain or prong collar, this works the exact same way and you don't tear a rotator cuff in the process. It is the manner that it played out. We run coyotes with hounds as well, and yes, there are times when the dogs will kill one, but we don't sit around with video cameras watching it for entertainment purposes. When we have a bayed up coyote, we get the dogs out of there ASAP and dispatch the coyote...

When I trained my VC for his UT, the first ducks we found were small white farm ducks. The guys in my training group thought it was hilarious, but results were the same! Studies have proved time and again that releasing captive birds does basically zilch for wild bird populations. It boils down to habitat and predator numbers, which in states like North Dakota, are no longer favoring prairie nesters.

The stress and cost are about the same. I just run UT. If a dog doesn't get the score we're looking for, we test again. Besides, might get a PI on the first go...would stick to get that in UPT then somehow have a bad day at UT and not PI. It happens.
