Re: Small hard lump on shoulder

Nope. No chip there.

What would be the difference between a movable vs non-moveable lump?

Small hard lump on shoulder

After picking up my GSP last week from the kennel she was at over the holidays ( not really a kennel, but a friend who is an excellent trainer and boards dogs) I noticed a small pea sized lump in the muscle on her left shoulder. It is at the top of the leg and feels like its in the muscle tissue but...

Re: Screaming deal on TT Sport Upland at Cabela's

Yep. Perfect timing. Needed a new collar. Had a $100 gift certificate as well, so just grabbed one for a hair over a hundred bucks. Hard to beat that deal. Should be in the mail today.

Seizure.....

Well, my 2.5 year old GSP just had a seizure not too long ago. She is fine now. She threw up a couple times prior and then was walking back in the house and started to seize up. Pretty scary. This happened one other time about a year ago. That time was in the middle of the night. She woke us up to g...

Re: Dog got bird.......

Unfortunately, couldn't have my shotgun or even cap pistol with me as the fields i was in were near a residential area. But, after thinking about it i agree with the last few posters. The dog almost did everything right. Had i fired a round it would have been a complete sequence. Not too worried abo...

Re: Dog got bird.......

Yes, the launchers are remote. Had her out today and she did really well. Also, had a partner to help out with things. First three birds she was perfect. Held point, no creep, steady through the flush. Last bird she got on fast and tried to creep in. I walked her off the bird and brought her back ar...

Dog got bird.......

Was doing some training today with some quail and the launchers. The pup has been creeping a little so i've been working a lot on her steadiness. Well, she hit a great point about 8yds off a bird and i walked up to the launcher and flushed. The bird took off and then dropped about 20 yards off. The ...

Re: Handling Quail?

Don, if you were to use them in a launcher would you just stick your hand in that box and grab and pull them out?

Handling Quail?

What is the best way to get your hands on and handle quail? I got myself a bunch to use for training and those suckers are fast and tough to get your hand on. Right now i have them in the box they came in and getting one out of there and into a bird bag is tough. I do have a pigeon coop i can use bu...

Releasing Quail?

I had a nearby field that i use to train my dog. Actually there are 2-3 field that total probably 20+ acres of long grasses surrounded by 100+ acres of pines. I've been using pigeons lately, but had a thought about quail. If i were to use quail (i know pigeons are more resourceful) during training a...

Re: darn squirrels

"I agree, let her have her "Toys" it probably isnt hurting anything and it gives them something to do. BUT, I would take the oppertunity to teach her that she is to NEVER blow off a command! " This would be my advice. Sounds to me like the perfect training opportunity. I'd make her heel too. If you...

darn squirrels

I could use some thoughts here. In our yard we have a good number or trees and along with that squirrels. They love to mess with the dog. Let her get close enough, then bolt up a tree. Or, hang in a tree just over her head. This has caused he to become obsessed with them squirrels, at least in the y...

Re: Type of bird question....

Could be a meadowlark, but didn't see any of the yellow on the bird. Not so sure about the dove. There were a few singles in the grass and then there were a bunch grouped together in some thicker grass.

Type of bird question....

Was out this morning taking the pup through the woods and some fields by the house when in one of the large fields i noticed she went of a pretty strong point. She then took a jump forward and a bird popped up and took off. She immediately got in the zone and ended up finding about 6 more. Trouble i...

Re: messed up on "whoa"

A positive step today.........I pulled the barrel out in the yard and she walked over and started jumping up onto it. Put her on top and she got herself in position and held posture. I gave her a click and treat but she put the treat in her mouth and spit it out. Ok. She got back in posture....held ...

Re: messed up on "whoa"

Thanks for the replies. To answer some questions.....I was a little late in the game with my education as a trainer.....which is most likely the reason for some of the troubles i am having. I did use the kennel to introduce the collar. However, due to my inexperience i probably went to fast. I have ...

Re: messed up on "whoa"

I use the Sportdog 400 and on level one it is a pretty low level stimulus......i did not go above this level. I had the points in contact with the side of her abdomen. So i guess i did little to prep. I backed off for a few days then tried putting her back up on an elevated board and she shut down a...

messed up on "whoa"

I think i messed up somewhere on "whoa" training. A little background: she is an 18 month old GSP. She knows the basic commands and has been collar conditioned. I've been using the Hickox method with teaching the command. We've been through using the place board, barrel, elevated place board, and th...
