From reading the post it sounds like your dog knows what it is supposed to be doing. She has demonstrated that multiple times. It is a battle of wills for you. Don't let her win. Make it uncomfortable to run by a back.

IMO: A big running dog doesn't really matter if they dont handle whether it be AAXAA or any venue x venue for that matter. So how the parents handle is would be high on my list along with nose. You have to have those to key components before range does any good.

I would get some quail. Set up with a chucker or pigeon in the launcher. Let the dog point the bird, throw a quail with trimmed wings. Let the pup have a blast with that bird flapping around. I applaud you on only taking shots when good dog work was applied. More often than not people loose there patience and cant stand to watch birds fly. It will pay off for you in the end! X1 on getting the kids out also,,, that's what its all about.

I have found a great happy medium feeding a mixture of Extreme athlete and High energy. During the off season 1cup EA/1cup HE. During hunting season I lean more towards 75% EA depending on the dog.

I think you're on the right track with the launcher idea. Just be sure to use a scent bird seperate from the launcher. Plant your scent bird (lock wing pigeon) at least 10 yards from the launcher (loaded with a flyer), and bring your dog perpendicular to the scent bird. Don't let her smell the bird...

This is almost always a problem for me also when I start dogs young. Something I have found that works well for me is to hunt them with a dog that retrieves well and so that there is a little competition in the equation.

IMO: I dont worry about age much. I think it applies more to how easy and well you introduce it. I start my dogs young in every aspect. Also take in to consideration how well your pup handles pressure.

What do you prefer?

In your personal opinion, what is the “perfect” scent conditions? To me I like anytime after the first frost or right before every green’s up in the spring. I like a light breeze, say at like 5 mph. I also like to stay away from any ragweed when training.

If the vet thinks you should do it, why not? Also if you have a fenced in yard why does she have to be kept inside unless supervised. Do you have other dogs around? I would kick mine outside just because I would rather not have the mess inside :D .

I have the G3 also, but I reach for the Dogtra T&B first most of the time. I have not had any problems with the G3. I just like the beeper on the T&B for locating or changing directions.

I’m not qualified to speak of which brand because I have not owned any major manufactured brands. Most of mine have been custom made of sheet metal.
