No offense to anyone but how does Reba being honest and saying what most western hunters on public land feel when people put their areas on blast have anything to do with not introducing the next generation to the sport? I wouldn't give out any of my spots either and I cringe when people post stuff...

From reading the post it sounds like your dog knows what it is supposed to be doing. She has demonstrated that multiple times. It is a battle of wills for you. Don't let her win. Make it uncomfortable to run by a back.

IMO: A big running dog doesn't really matter if they dont handle whether it be AAXAA or any venue x venue for that matter. So how the parents handle is would be high on my list along with nose. You have to have those to key components before range does any good.

Re: proceeding with a noise sensitive pup
I would get some quail. Set up with a chucker or pigeon in the launcher. Let the dog point the bird, throw a quail with trimmed wings. Let the pup have a blast with that bird flapping around. It will help speed up his bird craziness. Before long he will be so excited about getting to that bird he wo...

I applaud you on only taking shots when good dog work was applied. More often than not people loose there patience and cant stand to watch birds fly. It will pay off for you in the end! X1 on getting the kids out also,,, that's what its all about.

Thanks everyone, this is helpful. I just bought my first launcher. Scent bird for launcher work
I think you're on the right track with the launcher idea. Just be sure to use a scent bird seperate from the launcher. Plant your scent bird (lock wing pigeon) at least 10 yards from the launcher (loaded with a flyer), and bring your dog perpendicular to the scent bird. Don't let her smell the bird...

Only if they make point it and hold it as desired. Also make sure they are in full chase and a good distance away during the first few fires. If the pup acts normally and not nervous work your way closer to him. Also start with a small caliber such as a .22 . Very important that you only shoot if th...

In your personal opinion, what is the “perfect” scent conditions? To me I like anytime after the first frost or right before every green’s up in the spring. I like a light breeze, say at like 5 mph. I also like to stay away from any ragweed when training.

The more birds the better as long as they are all positive expirence's. Although I would try to plan at least one trip to find some wild birds. Wild birds will teach him things that a preserve bird can't. 250+ plus birds a year at a preserve is a lot of money. I would personally put some of that tow...

Re: Horses on Property...
There's more to this than just buying horses and putting up a shed. One horse on its own will be lonely, they are herd animals. Fence is expensive to put up, and you'd better do it right or your livestock will be out, causing a hazard to traffic and a nuisance for your neighbours. Got lots of liabi...

If the vet thinks you should do it, why not? Also if you have a fenced in yard why does she have to be kept inside unless supervised. Do you have other dogs around? I would kick mine outside just because I would rather not have the mess inside .
