Sounds like the dog is more steady than the handler, don't over handle in training wait for her to make a mistake before you command. (Imo)

FF is not the retrieve as much as its the delivery. It also has positive effects beyond retrieving. The idea we are breeding dogs that won't retrieve (because we force them) is pure bunk..... Reading the posts it looks like retrieving can be a problem if not done right from little, so many posts on FF and retrieving issues ! Is it becoming a breeding problem in breeds were style, speed etc. has becone more important ?

This is not the first time this has happened in South Africa. GSP's are regularly placed in British Breed Field Trials in South Africa. It is true the medicore dogs make less mistakes and are easier to steady, that is why they do better in trials. BUT WHEN that on the edge dog gets it right ........ then they make your heart melt and bring tears to your eyes with joy ! (IMO)

It would not matter most birds found will earn points, birds left behind could cost you the next draw .... What do you consider a meat dog? I have 3 GSP's 2 of them are trained to a MH level the other is only 5 weeks but will be held to the same standard and they all have very good trial pedigrees are they meat dogs because I only hunt them? It all depends how fit your dog is, if they run20min a day they willbe fit enough to rin to whole day.

Ok ok ok IMO - endurance/competitiveness closely related in my eyes, dogs that have a high work rate and don't run away fron their noses will always do better than slow dogs. They just cover more ground ! Trials is a game the better dogs do come through with time, but does need some luck. Trialers b...

Whatever you do do not get a dog from hard field trialing lines they need space and stimulation !
If you go gsp go european lines closer slower dogs, britts do nog know them, seem like a nice breed.
