Imo most trainers start out to soft a then go over the top, I include myself not as a trainer rather as a handler. One looses your temper then go to hard this could damage your dog if he is soft, on birds and food there is no boundry in a natural environment this could mean death. Eg. In a pride if ...

IMO Trialing is importend if you looking for a dog or breed dogs, you can see a whole lot of dogs their style working ability etc.
Hunting I find many guys not really care in training the dogs well, cause time out for both are limited.

Not knowing Britts that well I can not tell, however all other gundogs I have had or seen have not acted like this at the relevant ages !

E collar is just to enforce commands once a dog knows them. Imo long term if you can do without a collar do without, if you going to use a collar use it all the time. Dogs learn they can do what they want without a e collar, untouchable they become without it, and that is a bad situation to be in . ...

Another update ! Pup runs well and now keeps contact without recalling, just walking away from pup and changing direction all the time. Within a week a BIG change ! 20min a day keeps the pro trainers away, Ha ! Only when we have to many birds flying around pup gets away a little, then I sit down and...

I miss SA. Seems like another life when I was over there. Not there for long but beautiful contry, though in 1996 it was in some tremendous upheaval. What I have learned from this also is once pup reacts never walk in a straight line, or follow pup walk in a square or away from pup. He has to learn to follow you !

Depends on how old the pup is? 8 weeks i use treats, and alot of praise if he comes. 6 months, If i have to chase him he better run till i can no longer find him cause he is getting a beatin when i do. A e collar on high works pretty well also, reinforces that when called the pup better be running ...

I think you are asking for trouble and a lot of disappointment if you try to put a schedule or time on a pup. No two are the same and many not even close. Sounds the pup has drive likes birds maybe still little immature. Agree to only have been exposed to visual birds by what I read. Maybe hide birds in thick grass in a cage then he will have to start using nose, he has to learn on his own he can not catch those birds that fly away ..... Good luck rem...

Just a update - the pups played around sniffing chasing butterflies stopped pointed and whoopee out flies a bird !
Now pup points scent and everything in sight, new game and my boss likes it ! Ha

Having mastered the sit command it very usefull, you can stop your dog anywere at any time before he gets into trouble. Far easier to sit him down when he gets to the birds wait for you to get there then work the birds with close supervision, this also helps for corrections cause you THERE. Sorry b...
