I would really look at the blackhawk line of dogs, very biddle, nice style, good nose, and tough dogs. Also the ones I've had and bred have been natural retrievers. Really good bird dogs. Agree with gonehunting get someone else to do the shooting until the dog is steady!

Maybe spend a day with the trainer to see how and when to enforce the commands he taught the dog.

My GWP did that at first. I just made a point of getting her in water as much as possible and she figured it out on her own. Are you serious?? If that is what you want, you really need a flushing breed. Your Lab doesn't know how old he is. He needs first to get introduced to water in a way that leaves him with the most favorable impression possible. Treat him like a pup.
