I would really look at the blackhawk line of dogs, very biddle, nice style, good nose, and tough dogs. Also the ones I've had and bred have been natural retrievers. Really good bird dogs. Agree with gonehunting get someone else to do the shooting until the dog is steady!

Not too late, just bears remembering as you go forward is unlike a puppy a 3 year old has life experiences, habits, some bad some good maybe, that may make the training go along at a different pace with some hurdles to get over.... Are you serious?? If that is what you want, you really need a flushing breed.
