good advice...let the dog range how it will naturally and get some electronics to locate the dog on point. this will allow the dog to hunt to its full potential.

getting the dog on a ton of pigeons will help with this....and a remote bird launcher....sounds to like your dog just needs a lot of birds in a controlled environment to let it know what it is looking for....it will get there, it just takes time, patience and a lot of birds.

Grouse, many times, don't sit tight for a point. They are great walkers. That's probably what happened to your pup; he saw them walking out in front of him and broke. Or, he tried to relocate and bumped them. He'll learn. grouse are a hard bird for a young dog to settle on point...they usually dont...
