wild pheasants and hard mouth

My GWP is not a trial dog, first off. Very rarely in my case does a wild pheasant hit the ground dead after being shot. My GWP had to disable (kill) the birds in order to make the retreive, thus leaving a few bite marks. On making retrieves of dead birds,(like hunting dead) this was not a problem. Wou...

Ice cut pad

How long does it take for a one inch cut, on the front pad to heal? He suffered the cut out running in the snow and ice
Treated it by neosporen and wrapping the paw with stretch tape. Hope it heals soon, so I can go hunting in Jan.

GWP acting like a Lab

Just got back from a pheasant hunt on the Colo & KS border. The birds are really bunched up this time of year. When me and the dog would approach a likley spot, the birds would begin the flush. My GWP Would not point, he would jump in to help the flush. He did not chase. Instead he would root the bu...

Re: Shooting birds not pointed...

Just got back from KS-Colo border. My GWP was turned into a flushing lab, by the way the pheasants were bunched up. He was having a ball, diving into a tank dam and 20-40 birds would get up. I did manage to shoot a few, so he got to make his retrieves. I was thinking did all his whoa training go out...

Re: what dog boots to get if any

Old front wheel motorcycle tube. cut into about 10 inch lengths, slits on one end to enable to slide over foot, gauze & duct
tape. works like a charm. Don't recall the web site describing the process.
