Re: Bell at Field Trial??

Thanks!!!! We had a great time. I learned that I should probably look in to buying an ATV or get horses again :)

Cooper is 7 months old, and he is very tall (24") But to be fair, I am also very tall (6 feet) and not a small woman.

Re: Bell at Field Trial??

I wanted to let everyone know how things panned out: We won our open class and placed second in the amateur puppy class!!! Pretty exciting for my first gun dog, and first field trial for both of us. No bell No tracker collar A few scouts on horseback because they were interested in the pup, and he's...

Re: Bell at Field Trial??

Tracker is more for piece of mind but we can't use them... it's my understanding that as soon as you ask for the receiver you're dq-ed, but at least you know where your dog is... $4 Turkey bell that I can use all the time v. $600 super cool gps system that I can't use in competition. For now, I'm go...

Re: Bell at Field Trial??

I would also use a tracker if I had the means to purchase one :D I've got a big running pup whose bell I can hear until about 200 yards in the woods, but I often lose the sound cause he's out running. There are times that he circles up behind me, so +1 to whoever it was that mentioned that EVERYONE ...

Re: Bell at Field Trial??

The bell is most definitely for my piece of mind. I'm not even going to pretend that it's not.

It's an AKC walking trial, so I'm not sure if I'll be able to use it anyway, sounds like maybe not... BUT if I could, I didn't want to be too frowned upon.

Thanks everyone!

Bell at Field Trial??

If my pup is off leash, he's wearing a bell... and that's how I usually do it.

Someone today told me that the bell is frowned upon in field trials. He's running in puppy classes this weekend, so please let me know your thoughts

Going to the GSP OH Walking Trial, Beaver Valley, PA 8/27?

Anyone else going?

It's my first one and I know some people from the GSP Ohio Club, but I thought I'd reach out and see if there's anyone else going?

Re: anybody have some pointers for using whoa barrel

As your dog steadies on the barrel and you're looking for longer times... What the heck is the handler supposed to do for 15 minutes? One minute seems like an eternity, so I can't even imagine 15... maybe I just get bored too easily :) Do you leave the dog on the barrel and go about some yard chores...

Re: Hi from NE Ohio

I did get the pup from Art, but I got the pup because I wanted to trial :) he kept a pup from the litter too and we're going to try to run them together. I'll be handling the dog. I may run him in both open and am puppy just to get the exposure, and because it's not too far from my house. My goal is...

Hi from NE Ohio

Hi everyone, My name is Cheryl and I've got a 7 month old GSP that I'm working with in hopes of doing field trials. I know a lot about dogs, but hadn't ever even seen a quail before this summer. I'm lucky to have a couple of veteran competitors who have taken me under their wing, and a hunt club whe...
