Re: Iditarod Dog Breeds
Here in Michigan, which may not be Alaska but still "bleep" cold, the GSP or Pointer and Alaskan Husky mixes dominate mushing. I skijor a bit for fun with my GSP's in the winter and we join in some mushing races and informal runs. I also work with some of the national groups on legislation. Most eve...

I don't have the experience to speak to either breed, but I just want to add that although a PP might not be able to run in AKC retriever hunt tests, they CAN run in UKC HRC tests.

Got my pup from Rob Moerman in Kalamzoo MI. Got one of his last litters but he would know who has what. Been in it over 40 years and has had a really good track record. Ditto on this--and his kennel is called Abbe Lane. Who is your pup out of? Another recommendation would be Shotgun Kennels, they h...

Question About Breed Registries
In light of the recent VDD ruling (that from July 1 going forward, no more DD's can be registered with other registries and those currently registered must be put on Limited Registration with other registries), I'm wondering how many other breed registries have this sort of rule? Someone told me tha...

Re: hunting poodle
My biggest problem with it is I don't see it being developed as a breed. I only see F1 crosses. That's not development of a breed--there's no defined purpose, function, type, size, or really any goal to breed towards. Modern day breeds began as crosses with a purpose. I think the public is being mis...

My wife raises golden rtrievers, and has had a lot of potential clients express an interest in a goldendoodle. Wouldnt have to be a hunting line poodle, i just feel like the dogs from a "hunting" line are a little more attentive/intelligent, and make better dogs. So you're looking to get a poodle t...

Abbe Lane has great versatile/NAVHDA line dogs. I am on my third GSP from them, he got a prize I Natural Ability at 4.5 months old, lives in the house, and comes to work with me all the time. Great nose, desire, and drive in the field with a definite off switch in the house. Fantastic temperaments o...

Re: Man Awarded $145,000 in the Shooting of His Dog
1. $100,000 of the award was punitive (probably mostly taking into consideration that the gun was aimed and fired so close to a HUMAN) and $45,000 was his actual cost. I'd imagine that was the value of the dog if it was somehow proven (alleged at $10,000) potentially the loss of revenue from the dog...

I'll have to look into this more, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it actually considered in California. HSUS has been very successful with both their anti-hunting agenda and also anti-ag. Well in most of the country you see waaay more cropped ears in APBT's. A lot of people with pits with natural ears complain that judges prefer cropped. And with BC's--too much to get into there with the ABCA's rule on showing dogs, but you do see more stock dog bc's in UKC. I know some that show loc...

With docked tails--that's already addressed in gun dog standards--both docked and natural are acceptable to allow imports from countries that do not permit tail docking.

It's not much different than roading. Possibly might want to modify the "whoa" command in bike/skijoring - whoa means to slow down and eventually stop, and in hunting to stop right now. Maybe use "sllllllowwwwwwwwwwwww" and "whoa" as the slow down and halt commands. Check out these GSP's in Alaska:...
