Re: Hunting and schutzhund

I know that a Belgian Malinois got a JH Title as well as several personal protection titles SchH, FR etc. I agree with most comments if you find the right temperament in any dog you could do it with he correct training. I would look at the Chessie breed if you are looking at "Hunt Breeds". I have tr...

Youth/Women Hunt GSPCI

My son talked my wife into going on the club hunt with him. She has never picked up a shot gun or hunted. I took her to the skeet range to get her familiar with the shotgun for safety and practical purposes. After fighting her kicking a screaming she really enjoyed shooting clays and was not too bad...

1st leg of JH test

This was my first hunt test and I really enjoyed it! GSPCI did a great job running the event. A very friendly bunch! Falko was in rare form at first harassing the horses and just about got kicked, however he got over them quickly and ran hard and really did great considering I have a handicap on fin...

Training Day

Started the weekend a little frustrated. I felt Falko was crowding the birds and just running into them not using his nose. As well as hard mouthed on them. However, after speaking with a few of the more exprienced handlers in the GSPIC at the Sporting Clays Shoot I decieded to go back out later tha...

Figured I would post a short clip, haven't been on the board in a while. Falko is 11 month old now. Its been a long frustrating summer of very little training. We didnt work the pup with the older dogs...we just placed quail had him point them then we flushed em for him to chase and mark. No shooting while pup was on the field. Little dog training ...little quail shooting

Did a little training with some older dogs and had my 13 wk old pup pointing quail. He did a great job marking them, but the one thing that really caught me off guard was how great my son shot and handled the older dogs. We placed about 15 quail and man did they run fly, they were spooky, barely sat...

Yes Indiana has two additional stamps..Habitat(for upland birds) and a Waterfowl..on top of the Federal Waterfowl. I really believe it should be the state not the Feds. In my experience anytime you get the Feds involved it seems to cost you more in the long run and nothing gets solved. That being sa...

Re: DEUTSCH KURZHAAR ..GSP ?? Are they not the same?

In my mind they are the same breed, maybe different types. The potential issue I see with DK's in the US is that unless they continuously import, the gene pool is going to shrink and shrink, which is not good for any breed. I'm all about genetic diversity. I don't like that they will dual register ...

Lived in Germany for many years and I've seen a lot of GSPs in the US. Good dogs in either camp. My take.... The GSP is smaller, lighter boned and bred to be a retrieving bird dog. The DK is larger on average, bigger boned and still expected to be an all rounder for the foot hunter from feather to ...

In my expereinces with GSD and Malinois. I have found that line breeding 2-2 is to too close. 3-3 or 3-4 is much better. When using a dog that is already very closely line bred, then you should go wide next time. If you keep staying close you are compounding all aspects of the dog you are line breed...
