Re: NC at ames

Had my fingers crossed for Highground Toby, would love to see a west coast setter on the stairs! Bucket list item for me to go see it in person someday. Great looking/performing a...

Re: Kennel Upgrade
I was able to get the roof wrapped up yesterday before the game. I ended up using some redwood treated with linseed oil for the subframe, and a poly/foam/fiberglass product for the roof. Worked out pretty well, and seems like it will last awhile.

Garrison- That is an AWESOME two dog setup. Your dogs should be happy to spend time out there. RayG I borrowed your suggestion and installed schedule 80 PVC couplings on the bottom of all the posts to keep the metal off the ground. Perfect fit for the galvanized fence rail I used, should give us so...

Kennel Upgrade
I was finally able to get some of my long planned kennel upgrade done yesterday. My dogs would usually spend equal time in and out of the house. But I had to remove all the old kennels durning our remodel. Going to be really nice to have a safe place for them when we are away from the house and look...

Re: Western States GSP Breeder
It might help to describe the “type” of dog he or she is looking for. There is a wide range of possibilities within the breed. Generally speaking, on the ends of the spectrum there are comparatively smaller, lighter footed, faster, trial bred dogs that can eat up big chunks of chukar country, and th...

I have a 20 gauge sharp tail with 28" barrels. I bought it for the exact same reason as you at the end of last season. Overall I like it and have not had a problem with it. I probably have about 1,000 rounds through it between skeet and hunting. There are times where quail are doing the popcorn flu...

Estimating Nutrient Concentration on a Caloric Basis

Re: 4 month GSP size concerns
Absent malnutrition, bordering on starvation your puppy will eventually reach her genetic potential in due time, whatever that might be. We often get this question starting at this age, because they are growing out of the puppy stage and moving into adolescence. The goal with a growing pup is to pro...

I personally only use stimulation on my dogs, I don’t see any benefit of the tone or vibration function if the collar is set properly and the dog is collar conditioned. At this point my dogs know what is expected of them, so very rarely do I have to use stimulation for much, in fact rarely at all. M...

Two different things that young inexperienced dogs are pretty darn adept at doing. It sounds like it might be a little bit of both? Either way, she doesn...

Firstly, do you have a picture of the dog in question? This question has come up numerous times, and the dog ends up being in perfect shape. It usually takes more activity than our schedules can provide for a dog to need more than just a bit more of a good kibble, especially a 4 year old in warm wea...

Re: Creeping
I agree 100%, in a training situation as you describe with planted birds, or on a preserve type hunt, the dog should be completely staunch as soon as it makes scent. This is something that is a concern and should be addressed in the manners prescribed. It also may have been avoided with the launcher...

Did your dog catch some birds when unrestrained? A proper and thorough force fetch protocol even by a seasoned veteran may or may not help your situation, but I would wager it would be a real battle and more likely not correct it completely. It will not hurt the situation and Evan Graham’s Smart Fet...
