Re: Hunting grouse with flushers

I've seen both styles be successful, I would see if you could hunt behind both styles, flushers and pointers, even if it means you hire a guide to see both styles. I'm not a guide but I would be happy to show you my pointers.

If they don't like there pay they should resign and work like the general public and see if they make $174,000 a year.

I joined so that I could stay up on all the things relating to the sport I love, whether it's political or vet care I sure have not experienced everything and I'm sure no one else has, so why not take advantage of all the information available. A thousand eyes looking at different topics and sharing...

Re: Trailer modification - rear tack in stock trailer??

Now I saw the new Exiss, looks like a nice trailer! What were your reasons for going with a stock model after having a slant designed for horses?

Re: Trailer modification - rear tack in stock trailer??

I just saw your other post about the new horse, is that the same trailer you want to change? If so a lot of trailer companies put the holes in the floor and ceiling so that you can move the saddle rack to the mid tack or the back, might be worth looking under the mats in the back to see.

Re: Trailer modification - rear tack in stock trailer??

I don't having any experience putting a saddle stand in a stock trailer but I would definitely want it to have a divider from the horses. What was wrong with the mid tack?

Re: Decline of Field Trials

I would agree with a lot of the comments that have been posted here, but the thing I see being the biggest issue is the loss of hunting ground. Not only does it make it further for people to drive to go hunting, it is that much further to get to areas to train your dogs. If you can find a place clos...

Re: does she sound timid to you...or is it just me

I am not as experienced as many here but I think I would quit using the NAVHDA grounds as it sounds like your bad experiences stem from that location? You say that after she finds a bird she pretty much heads for the jeep, is it because she associates this to mean your done training? If you go to th...

Sorry to hear the first litter didn't pan out for you. Good luck with the second breeding! If you want to come out and see some coverdog trials, and have the time let me know, I am heading out to the trials north of Augusta on the 15-17.

Re: puppy/started dog prices

I personally like to buy started dogs. I have found that for me that situation works out the best, due to work schedule and not having enough time to train. From my perspective, you will have a tough time selling your pup for $1000, sorry. I can go on to a number of websites and find started/finishe...

Re: What makes a good Grouse Pointer?

As many wild birds a you can find! When sending to a trainer realize that it doesn't always gaurantee your dog will come back a wild bird expert, keep in mind that most trainers do a lot of their training on pigeons or chukars. Neither of which respond the way a wild grouse does. Had my dog at a tra...

Just my opinion, he belives you are "his people" and he's defending you. Instead of him being "your" dog and being okay with wherever you tell him to be. I would curb it as soon as he growls. Thats my .02

Re: Where to get pigeons

Local farm kids are usually willing to go and catch them for a couple bucks a bird. I have an amish connection that I pay 2 bucks a bird for and they go crawl around in the hay mows for me. 1 night they had a hundred in 45 minutes! Crazy to watch them climb all over in the dark!

Your pictures would put me over the edge of being reasonable. I cannot imagine anyone that would deny that they made a mistake when the dog looks like that. There would definitely be a phone call to an attorney, vet board and the local newspaper. That being said I hope your dog is alright and your p...

Northern MN

I am looking at going to Northern Mn for three days before and after thanksgiving, and I am wondering if anyone can offer any insight as to a good hotel/motel around the Superior National forest. East of Ely and north of Two Harbors was the general area I was thinking.
thanks Josh

Re: Quill Removal

I've asked a number of vets if there is a trick, as my dog has gotten 8 porkies, and the best explanation I've gotten is that a quill has what would look like fish scales under a microscope. If you run your hand down a fish one way it's nice and smooth, but if you go the other way, the scales offer ...

Hi Grange, it was nice to meet you and I appreciate the hospitality. Wish I could have been there Sunday to see Tico's run but I had a few other things that had to be done. You are right about being bitten by the trial bug as well, already registered for both Mora trials and planning on entering the...
