Had Springer's many years ago. Watched a bunch of Springer field trials and did a bunch of Ore Springer club fun day's. Forgot how much I liked watching them work. Got to watch Doc Christensen and his wife's great dog's. They are really impressive!Beautiful video, super dog!

8 to 10 pounds over weight? Somehow I doubt that. That's a lot f weight and really shows. Dog in the photo looks pretty good.keep in mind that the setter's, most of them, are a lot softer than shorthairs! I'm guessing Holly put this together?

I use only pigeons training anymore. Put them in a remote trap and you can make them act a lot more wild than any pen raised game bird. Turning over to game birds is no problem either unless you used the pigeon as a training bird without a remote. Pen raised birds you have no idea what they will do!...

A trained dog. Well a trained dog really isn't there IMO when training is done. You have to put that training to work on wild birds and that finish's the training. My advice would be to read up on the requirements of whichever tests or levels you want to run, then go to a test and observe. It's difficult to just read and figure out what you need to do. Never had a problem turning dog's on to wild birds from pigeons. Usually a couple birds and the wild one's are good to go. Keep in mind that there is a distinct difference in a show Springer and a field springer. To look at them, at least when I had springer's, they looked like two different breeds.

Go to Facebook and do a search for Meg Eaden. She's got the best wirehairs I've ever seen. Run's AKC and found out last year, NAVHDA with her dog's. Another to check would be Ray Calkins but need to get on a list with him I think. He would be Cascade kennels in Sherwood, Oregon, unless hes moved!

I think the thing about NAVHDA and other venues is simply that NAVHDA is a test and the other's are competition of one kind or another. About all I got from that was the dog went straight to what looked like a hay pile to me, bumped a bird out then go whoa'd and the guy walks back down the isle and pick's up a dead bird! What was the lesson here for the dog?

Sounds to me like you might be better served with a flushing dog. Only problem is the flushing dog probably couldn't keep track of you either!

How thick brush are you talking about? I had the dog's in sagebrush a week ago I couldn't see much over and haven't a clue where the dogs were. Doesn't do a lot of good to take dog's into stuff you can't even shoot in much less see the dog's.
