Re: Yildiz Shotguns.
I have the 20 gauge O/U and I really enjoy it. I went on a 6 day pheasant hunt in Iowa and didn't have one problem with it. The light weight was a bonus.

Tips for picking the right pup
Hey guys, I will be getting a Brittany puppy in the coming months and need some advice. The last brittany I got is a great house dog, poor hunter, so with that in mind I want to be much more selective. What are key points that you look for when picking "the one" from the litter. Is it the alertness,...

Re: Getting discouraged with Brittany
Took her into the quail pen today and within 2 minutes she caught 5 quail and released them unharmed, she was having a great time. She did get a grip on one a little to tight and killed it, I did reward her with praise the whole time. After killing the one, I took her out of the pen and started play...

Re: Getting discouraged with Brittany
I am assuming getting her VERY birdy is the most important factor right now. By trying to accomplish this I will take some advice and put her in the quail pen. My question is how much encouragement to I give her and if she does catch and kill a pen quali, I should overlook that but should any reward...

Re: Getting discouraged with Brittany
Great advice everyone, overall I am feeling somewhat more positive. I kind of felt she is too young to give up on. But if she grows older with no desire she will be a great pet.

Re: Getting discouraged with Brittany
I have one like this, and it took geting the dog in the truck, getting her exposed to as much as possible, and getting her confidence up. If I hunt her with my other dogs she does ok, but if I have a buddy with me, she wont leave my side, no matter what, unless she happens onto a bird, then she wil...

Getting discouraged with Brittany
My one year old Brittany seems to make a better couch ornament than an outdoor enthusiast. Take her to the woods and she trips me because she stay under my feet. She won't venture out, even with my dads dogs running and quartering. Pointing is out of the question, if I get her close to a bird, she r...

Jumbo vs. Northern Bobwhite
I bought a dozen northern bobwhites for training, but the seller was telling me most people use the jumbo bobwhites to train with. My thought WAS that northern is what she will encounter in the field, so that is what she should train with. But then people use a variety of birds to train with. Any th...

Gun Shy
I hear people say that gun shyness is a self made issue. My issue is my 10 month old Brittany that I just got is terrified of loud noises. I have started to clap my hands really loud as we play and she seems ok. I have also shot a toy cap gun away from her, but this seems to startle her. How should ...

Re: Chukar vs. Quail
All is good so far. They don't seem to mind each other at all. I did put some extra cover in the pen as well. Very surprised and pleased that I don't have to build another pen right now. Thanks for the advice y'all, I was worried that they wouldn't coexist.

Chukar vs. Quail
I have a small flight pen - 8' wide X 24' long X 6' high. Currently, I have 5 Bobwhite Quail in it. I have about 15 chukar in my small pen. Can I combine these birds in my flight pen or will it cause issues? Bobwhite are mature birds, chukars are approx. 6 weeks old.

Re: Chick hatching help!
Don't help. I have done this and have had NO luck, even by picking a little at a time. Like the other post said, mother nature rules. Be patient, today was day 25 for my eggs and I had 8 more hatch. Don't know why there is such a time gap, but it seems like every time at hatching, it varies from 23-...

Re: Quail recall pens
Tried my homemade recall pen today. 8"x16"x30". Funnel has a 5" opening closing to 3" and is 1' long. Placed a mature male bobwhite in the cage. Released 6 quail for training. No birds entered the recall pen, however, they did gather back up and I found all 6 of them just outside of their flight pen...

Pigeons for training
Everybody recommends the use of pigeons because upon flush, they get up and go, and go, and go. Are these special pigeons? Are these the pigeons that poop on your head as they fly around city parks? If so, how do you catch them or make them a homer?

Quail recall pens
Do recall pens really work. The small wire ones with the funnel, are they effective on wild birds or just pen raised birds? How long for the birds to return?

New Brittany Help
Just got a 10 month old Brittany and what an obedient dog. She listens great, great personality. The breeder that I got her from said she was a "light" dog when it comes to training, what does this mean. Also, worked her with a live, small chukar and she did awesome, found the bird, retreived it wel...
