Really no way to train that, either got it or they don't. Sometimes free running them in front of 4 wheeler really gets them going!

You have been training for 50 years and still don't think you can train a dog to stop on first scent? You need to get out of those woods Dave, you seem to be a bit behind the times when it comes to training. No offence ment. I'm sure you are a great grouse hunter from those 2 pics we've seen 100 tim...

Re: I Don’t Get It.
That has nothing to do with thread ryman. I've grouse hunted enuf to no that it doesn't compare to chukar, quail, huns, or pheasant in difficulty.. grouse are the dumest of all gamebirds by far. They flush 20 yards land in a tree and sit there like u can't see them. But of course we weren't brought ...

Re: Tips To Increase Dog's Range
At this point if you dont trust him on his birds theres no point trying to get him to range. Once you have him broke on his points i would start running him with a big running dog and get him stretching out. If hes getting out there 250 i would bet he go out farther. If he was only ranging a 100 i w...

Take the dog to a field with some birds in your vest, wait till the dog is 15-20 yards away say whoa enforce with collar if needed, when dog stops throw a bird from vest. Due this a few times and u will have a dog excited to whoa, and look good doin it..

I would be interested in hearing from some folks that use the collar on the flank how they eventually transition to the collar on the neck for whoa.[/quote] It makes no sence to transition from flank to neck imo . Re: Best way to utilize some time?
1. Get the dog 100% gun broke. 2. get dog hunting a field and looking for birds. 3. Get the dog handling in the field with birds present.
