Retrieving Help
Ok - so I can not "close" the thread - I spoke out of turn on that one. But I do beg to differ - I believe that my dog is fully trained. Is the measurement how she reacts in my back yard or is it how she does the job that all hunting dogs are trained for - hunting! I contend that the later is the im...

Re: Retrieving Help
I hope I don't offend anyone who responded to my original query, but I am almost sorry that I asked the question. It seemed like a simple question. When I purchased the dog, I got her from a very reputable field trial breeder and trainer. I told him what I was looking for and he said that she would ...

Re: Retrieving Help
When first asked the question, I was looking for a possible solution to a problem I was having with my dog. After listening to some of the answers, I came to conclusion that I might not have a problem after all. That is what I gleaned from the responses that I received. Some suggested an e-collar wh...

Re: Retrieving Help
My main reason for bringing a bumper along is to see if the situation is based on the location or the item. It really doesn't make much difference but I think it is the backyard location versus how she handles a bumper. More just interest then trying to solve it.

Re: Retrieving Help
My dog and I went out to the hunt club this morning and I had them set 4 chukers out in a fairly large field. She found all 4, flushed them (and I actually shot all 4 too) and retrieved them all straight back to my hand. She also flushed a scratch hen pheasant too, which I dispatched and she brought...

Re: Retrieving Help
Bill - I take nothing negative from your post. I think you might have a very good point that she sees the yard as a play ground and it's not the right place to do training. She is very well bred and is, as you said, a little electric bundle - she needs to run and that is what she does in the yard. I...

Re: Retrieving Help
Not that I have anything against an ecollar, I used one with my lab, I don't want to use one on the cocker. I think I agree with what Sharon said and may just forget about "playing" in the back yard and try and get exercise another way. She knows and responds to HERE in every other situation. We are...

Retrieving Help
I need some direction. I have a 2 year old English Cocker Spaniel that is fully trained and works fantastic in the field. She is steady to the flush and retrieves right back to my hand. The problem is in the back yard - she is steady until I release her but wants to play with the bumper on the way b...

Where do your dogs sleep?
My cocker sleeps with me in the bed. She was a kennel dog for the first two years of her life, but the rest will be spent with me. My wife moved into the other bedroom a few years ago due to "our" snoring so the dog and I share the be now.

Re: Need a new vehicle...opinions please
I have a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 4.7 V8. It's a very comfortable vehicle and has a tow rating of over 6,000#. I have a 6X10 enclosed trailer I use for my ATV and it pulls it without any issues at all, and gets about 17 mpg in town and low 20's on the highway (without the trailer of course)...

Re: Looking for an English Cocker Spaniel
Well, I found my dog! She's almost 2 and a hunting machine. Perfect size for a house pet - about 25 pounds and it's amazing to see her work a field.
I'll let you all know how it works out. Thanks for all the advice!

Looking for an English Cocker Spaniel
This time I think I am sure (OK - pretty sure). I am looking for a well started or finished English Cocker Spaniel. I would like a house-broken dog about 1 year to a 1 1/2 years old. I would like to find one in the upper mid-west - around Minnesota and the 4 bordering states. If anyone has such a do...

Started GWP Wanted
Well, I think I finally convinced my wife that we need another dog in the house. Our chocolate lab died last winter and we both took it pretty hard. If it were up to me - we would have had another dog immediately, but I let her decide when the time was right. I also think I have her talked into a Ge...

Hunting Dog Advise Wanted
I am new to this forum and have a question of all you experts. My chocolate lab passed last winter and I would like to get another dog. This time I am going to look for a started (at least) dog since I'm a pretty crappy trainer and don't really have the time to spend. I am interested in a English Se...
