Once pup has had all of his shots, take him everywhere, Petsmart, fields, playgrounds with kids, walks in the neighborhood, running on his own, running with older dogs. Let the kids play with him, if you don't have kids, hire some. Once he is getting independent and bold introduce loose released pen...

Re: FT dogs not such good hunters
Same ole argument that's gone on since trials began. Everyone believes how they use their own dogs and where they hunt is good for everyone else. I've hunted my trial dogs on wild quail in west Texas on foot and out of Rangers, Mules, and all types of 4 wheelers. It's a blast and the dogs have never...

Re: fetch balls or never ...bad idea ...use only bumpers
Anything a dog can crunch is a bad idea IMHO. Watch most dogs with a tennis ball and they love to adjust, crunch, adjust, crunch, leads to the same thing in birds. I have always used small paint rollers for puppies, then on to small then large bumpers. Why create an issue you may have to fix later? ...

Maybe I missed something, but you say the trainer used pigeons and she was perfect when you picked her up. Did the trainer stop at pigeons? Did the trainer, get the dog steady to shot on pigeons, then move to pen quail? You have inadvertently skipped a bunch of steps-steady in the yard on pigeons, s...

IMHO never whoa a dog unless forced into it. Meaning, if you are at a trial, dog is jumpy, green, etc. and you feel it is better to whoa him that to have him bumrush the birds, then whoa him. Better to take care of this in a training situation that in competition. Looks amateurish. Train the dog, wh...

First time I ever agreed with Ezzy. Personally, I have always introduced killing birds differently and in a different order than seems to be what is being recommended. I have always let pups point, hold as long as they will naturally, bump, chase, etc. Most of these encounters are on wild quail or g...

Neil, what about the need for a split in the Brittany? The beauty of the GSP is that we acknowledge the split.
