Re: Soooooo..what is wrong w/ AKC Hunt Tests
Absolutely and I would not argue that. It was hard to tell whether pup ran off due to the landscape. My pup doesn't generally run off but the judge couldn't know that and wouldn't / shouldn't make a difference anyhow. You will not get an argument out of me for that. Once it became OBVIOUS what the ...

Re: Just don't get it
I once watched my pup point a quail sometime in September @ the age of 5 months with plenty of freshly fallen leaves on the ground. He started creeping in slowly and each footstep he took pushed the quail forward a foot or so. Pup cautiously and as quietly/slowly as he could took steps closer only ...

You come on a public forum with crazy talk of breeding a puppy and even admit it was on purpose so you you can find something out then talk about someone else's dog training skills? What about responsable pet owner skills? Your right you've got to live with it because you can't fix stupid.

I've had bird dogs for sometime now but just sent my first one to a trainer/handler in Ohio,She is a huge running dog and wanted to give her a shot at HB field trials, I'm very comfortable with her handler (great guy) but still feels like I just sent off one of my kids! I have always started early with fly away drills also, have never heard of it taking away from the dogs finding ability. I alway thought it was less pressure on a dog with high prey drive to take the chase out early.

Don't jump on me for this is a honest question, what does finding a bird have to do with chasing? Can't you not do them both from the beginning? Take the chase out while your getting him steady from day 1?

I think you can absolutely do this at a high level if you think it will help you, every one keeps going back to reading the dog this is a visual which is a very big part of charts/maps. Myself I do this 60 hrs a week so I choose to shoot from the hip when working dogs.

I just don't get why we put so much training on our trial dogs to begin with. I'm kind of beating a dead horse here, so I'll leave it at that, but if a trial is to gauge a dog's ability, why judge dogs after they have so much man-made behavior? There's just too much variable. The first owner of the pup is the breeder...who has a right to name it if he/she wishes. If you have picked a name, and that is more important than getting a dog from that breeder, go somewhere else.
