My son is ready to graduate from his hr single shot .410. He is 10 yrs old and 95 lbs. looking for all around shotgun upland waterfowl and turkey. Was thinking 870 youth model in 28 or 20 ga little worried 20 may be too much or cz 28 ga side by side. Any suggestions appreciated.

Little food for thought... How many of us hunt for subsistence? would be way cheaper and easier to raise and eat chickens than train a dog to hunt wild birds. Another thing that chaps my hind end is when we start to place more significance on one animal over another. They should all be treated human...

Great idea on elk sheds then if I ever win the tag lottery Id have good idea where to begin. Good way to find some good grouse spots as well. I put a shed in her run with her today and made big deal over it when she went after it. Excited about being able to use her more.

So my setter should be good. Any negative effects on grouse hunting? Specifically, If head high running/searching for grouse body scent is desirable will nose to ground shed hunting be problem?

I have a 2 yr old setter and live in southern Ohio grouse #'s are down and would love to train her to shed hunt and find an additional use for her. Any problems using a setter to shed hunt or should I look for a lab for this purpose? If so can lab be used to retrieve ducks hunt upland and shed hunt?...
