Pellets???
After the post about cooking pheasants, I was pondering eating meat with lead pellets. How about the lead pellets? I prefer to use #6 so that most go through but there are bound to be some that stay and I cannot seem to find. I got a javelina last year (bow hunt) and it was full of pellets. Apparent...

Re: Accidental Mating and Pregnancy at 8-months?
First: I have not experience in this at all. But I would think if the dog was old enough to get pregnant, she would be old enough to carry to term and give birth. Certainly, not ideal but rarely in life are things ideal. There would be plenty of extra vet visits in this case so you need a vet with w...

Re: Advice for gun dogs with chickens?
Two of our three neighbors have had all their chickens killed by the third neighbor's shepherd and cattle dog. Our 3 acres is fenced and we have relatively little issues with wandering dogs. Anyway, we are caught in the middle as we still talk with all the neighbors. Quite the hard feelings exist in...

Both my Britts are pretty good about not releasing till I allow them. Now they were both professionally broke, but it is amazing how fast they will digress. So, ever door or gate we go through, they hold until I release them. It takes GREAT consistency! Another friend does not practice this discipli...

"presumption that males are harder to housetrain" ... our female was difficult to house train. Our male came house trained, though he was in an outdoor pen/kennel all summer but he was older when we got him at about 5 months.

For living with, I say females: no marking territory and sweeter. We waited over two year to get a female. My breeder did not let his males in the house but the females were allowed. HOWEVER, if you have an intact female and want to run her in trials and what not, you just know the event is going to...

I have been looking into this for our 1+ yr old Britt, whose middle name is Destructo. Even with the well over $100 beds, the best warranty is 120-180 days or so. K9 Ballistic has the metal encased one and then some chew resistant ones also. After doing the normal google search for chew-proof dog be...

Re: Carded quail.....same quick flutter but don't lose the bird
I guess just letting the dog retrieve them alive and chew them up is more humane? WOW! If you want to train bird dogs, the birds are not going to fare well, unless you want to make a distinction between pigeons and quail. My trainer uses the cards on pigeons and they seem pretty effective. He is dea...

I would think a GSP is double the size of a coyote. Coyotes are 20-50 lb according to Britannica and a GWP is 50-70 lb. But no I have not.

I picked up a used collar/transmitter for cheap that has the Tone, Vibrate, Momentary Stimulate functions. My 15 yr old Britt is deaf and was hoping to use it. He never has needed stimulus except on chasing game. The younger Britt is nine and I put it on him to discourage eating poop. Trying it out,...

Re: Anyone used an Ecollar with a Brittany
I use e-collars on mine but they were much older to start. I have a tone that worked well on my older dog till he went completely deaf this yr -- never need stimulation till this yr. The younger dog needs a reminder every once in a while as he is pretty intense, like in chasing rabbits and deer/ante...

Re: Hunt with or without e collar
The collar was for my peace of mind more than anything. Several times I found out after the fact, that I forgot to turn it on. When I got my 2nd set of e-collars that had the little tone, I almost exclusively used the tone function after that -- dogs hated the loud beeper. The only time I found that...
