Re: Do Mr. Dove and Mr. Quail dine at the same restaurant?
my experience is they will and do overlap. They eat grains pretty much and have both get up out of food source locations back when I lived in SE Kansas

Re: Upland hunting during deer gun season
Here in Montana your dogs can get shot by people who simply fail to identify the target, or they will say it was running livestock, or looked like what was running livestock. I hunt birds on public land, and I simply go to my next spot if vehicles are present, it is not worth me going to jail for sh...

Re: Turn and burn Detroit to KS
I use to live and work in downtown proper. Lived on what I called "hooker and dead body central", 24hwy, and was the Security Ops manager for Union Station KC. The gas station downtown wont let you in the store after dark as they get robbed and shot up to much, just not worth the risk in that enviro...

Re: Turn and burn Detroit to KS
oh yeah, and the I-70 interchange down town can really suck as far as the sinage goes. Once you get to KCMO propper, have a full tank of gas and dont stop till you get through! I did enough law enforcement and protection work in that area to know that an out of state tag to often meant victim to a l...

Re: Montana Upland
Some, here in the NE Corner, we get a mixed bag of everything but quail. I was surprised to see as many birds as I did this year, we had 9ft of snow, then floods, but they did well, deer and antelope not so much! We really do have great bird hunting up here though. I start in Sept for dove and the w...

Re: Gsp doesn't like cold
I never had a shorthair that didn't want to jump in the truck to go hunting & jump out when we stopped to hunt, regardless of the temp. On the other hand my 9 1/2 y.o. GSP no longer likes to stand out in the cold in the back yard with no activity and sits & whines 'till she gets back inside. If you...

Re: Pups are gross
Just be glad it wasnt a porcupine, or one of the many EHD killed whitetails we had here in NE Montana, or the dead skunk they found, if the dog is acting fine, chances are it will be ok. Biggest problem I had with fish was with dorsal spines in the roof of the mouth!

Re: Let em chase or stop em?
I let my dogs chase when they are pups, they found over time, they wont catch, well most of them, and they started to point. In my mind it paid off, we chased a criple ditch chicken almost half a mile the entire time both Dutch and Sammie Girl doing a "walking point". I really do not think they woul...

Tuffy's
This is the best food I have found in my area. I get it from the local elevator. I feed the Tuffy's gold, and it seems to do good by my dogs. I wanted to know if anyone else has had any good/bad experience with this food, link to it is http://www.tuffyspetfoods.com/

Re: Wtat's your favorit shotgun?
One of my favorite guns, one I still drag out once or twice a year is a bolt action .410 passed down to me, that he got when he was young. I learned to quail hunt with it back in KS, and with a built in poly choke, got a lot of use out of it! Now though, my go to gun is a Mossberg 500 I had some cus...

I got a neoprene vest from Cabelas as my male dutch really needs one. I am going to test it out in the next few days, will let you know how it goes. One reason I went with the Cabelas neoprene though is that it is a velcro closure, not a zipper allowing more variation in size.

Re: Getting discouraged with Brittany
I have one like this, and it took geting the dog in the truck, getting her exposed to as much as possible, and getting her confidence up. If I hunt her with my other dogs she does ok, but if I have a buddy with me, she wont leave my side, no matter what, unless she happens onto a bird, then she will...

Re: Dog Growls
My male weimer gets flat skiddish when you try and wrap him in a bear hug, and he flat out gets scared. Both my wife and I worked with him, and though he grumps some, we have taught him he doesnt have anything to be scared of. I cant even fathom trying to use an e collar to train that out. It takes ...

Hello from Montana
Hello all, I have four weimars, and love to upland hunt, I lived and hunted in Kansas before the wife and I came to Montana, and I doubt I will move again as the game choices here are so great, Plus getting to live and hunt the Milk River aint bad after having hunted KS giants!
