Re: Standing Corn Geese In The Snow
Absolutely nothing better than killing geese in the snow. I could have swore that the shot at about the 2:33 mark you were going to be behind that one bird but it folded clean! Sure is nice not to have to use a layout blind isn't it? Nice camera work I really enjoyed watching that!

I worry more about coyotes with my two puppies. I even worry about coyotes with my wifes lap dog. Dang coyotes get pretty brave and pretty desperate when it get cold out.
A hawk would be a stretch with anything but a very very small puppy.

They are bad news for sure. But I don't think a ban on them is necessary. Perhaps a ban on how and where you can set them. A simple fix for a bobcat set, or really just about any set would be setting them in a tree instead of on the ground. It's really quite easy to do with great results.

Would much rather hunt in 6 inches of snow given the same cover, bird numbers etc etc. Anything to keep those feet from being able to reach solid ground will help though. Cattails would be choice right now though!

No need for a choke chain and certainly not a pinch collar at 4.5 months old. He's just a youngin. I wouldn't worry about perfect heeling with him just yet or at all. That pup needs to be going on field walks smelling the daisy's. Waiting a couple more months or even 3 isn't going to lose you any gr...

If I could own only one dog it would be a Chessie. Every one I had was a great pheasant dog, outstanding waterfowl dog, great house dog and loyal as the day is long. When I think of momentum as it pertains to retrievers I think of how well the dog will go over or through and obstacle on a retrieve, not stopped, hesitating or whatever, going to a retrieve. It is perhaps a word that is not being used for it's purpose via Webster, but that is what I think momentum ...

I think it should work both ways. Conformation is important but conformation that ruins the original intent of the dog is bad. I think that before you can have a championship on a field bred dog, it should have to have passed some test to show it had no disqualifying faults. The only bad part of th...

I don't believe horses are allowed on KDWP public hunting areas managed for wildlife or WIHA. It's foot traffic only on both. So most likely it would have been private ground.
But you CAN find plenty of birds on public if you know where to look.

Far from acceptable! The correct thing in that situation would be to find the owner of the dog and politely ask if he would keep his dog under control.
