Handgun Hunting
I know its off of the bird dog subject but have a question. I am looking to get a handgun to deer hunt with and really like the ruger SP101 with 4.2 inch barrel. (cause I can't afford a redhawk) does anyone have any suggestions on the SP101 for deer hunting.

Gun Dog Central
Has anyone been having trouble with gun dog central. When you select a type of dog and then try to select a state or breed it doesn't bring up the dogs that are listed. I was just wondering if anyone has been having the same trouble or if they know how to fix it. Thanks

Myself and a couple of buddies are looking to go pheasant hunting this year, possibly in South Dakota. Does anyone have any advice on where to go or are there any good public places to go hunt?
Thanks

Re: diatomaceous earth food grade, do you use it
I love it, I use it on my birds and my chickens and my dogs. It works great to keep flies away and to keep fleas out of my yard.

Dogs to Close to Quail Pen?
I have a small quail coop with 12 Bobwhites in it to train with. I only have a small piece of property so I can only get it about 40 yards away from my dog kennel. Is this too close to my dogs?

Re: What Breed Did You Start With
I was wondering about a Gordon Setter. I have never hunted with one and dont know anyone else in Kentucky that does. But there are some people close to me who just had a litter and I was considering trying one. Started with EP, then went to ES, Brit, now I have Gordon's. Love the breed, all the bree...

Re: 8 month Britt not pointing
He will try to catch them sometimes but acts like he looses interest really quik. I have always been told not to let a dog catch a bird. I am just hoping he comes around and I haven't bought a dud. I don't think we are understanding what he is saying. The dog is running over the top of them and igno...

Re: 8 month Britt not pointing
No I haven't seen the parents hunt but I do know they will. My uncle hunts with the parents and he has a female out of the same sire and dam from a previous litter and his dog is doing great.

Lead training my brittany pup
I just got a brittany pup 1 week ago. The pup is 3 months old and came from a good breeder. Everyone I have talked to says brittanys are naturally kind of shy anyway. I have started trying to get it used to a leash. When I put it on him at first he fought it. He has quit fighting it now but just lay...

GSP for hunting and retreiving
I am wondering if anyone has any expierience with using German Shorthaired pointers for bird hunting and retrieving. I mean retrieving like quail and retrieving ducks as well. I don't have one yet but I am considering buying one. Drop me a line if you have any advice on this. Thanks!
