Torn CCL treatment

My 4 y o brittany has been lame on his left rear leg for about a month and a half. I took him to the vet today to have it looked at and the diagnosis was a torn CCL. The vet was unable to determine the severity of the tear as the exam did not include X-rays etc. The vet has me putting my pup on gluc...

Will this "ruin" a bird dog?

Years ago when I was in my early teens, my uncle chastised me for shooting a rabbit (in season) in front of his bird dogs while we were grouse hunting. His argument was that his dogs seeing me shoot a rabbit would make them think we were hunting rabbits and not birds and thus ruin them as bird dogs....

Re: A gopro grouse/woodcock video highlight snippet

Pretty cool, wanting a gopro for myself but waiting for a sale. First shot looked pretty tough. You sure that was a woodcock in the second? Looked like a grouse to me, too big for a woodcock. Thinking about a trip to WI next season for grouse, if that is the typical cover you have I have much to lea...

Creeping on point question

Over the course of this season my 14 mo old britt has gone from no clue to bird crazy hunting a mix of quail and ruffed grouse. Only since late December has he become reliable locking up on point when he locates a bird as opposed to busting up every bird he smells. We did enough WHOA training in the...

Big Brittany?

Just a curiosity question. What is the biggest size you have ever seen in a HEALTHY brittany? My 14 month old male britt is 55 lbs and still has his back ribs visible. Definitely out of AKC regs (and I dont care). Biggest britt I have seen other than him was at least 15lbs lighter.

My britt is almost 14 mos old. Brought him home a year ago this coming Saturday so I only have a few more months experience than you. I am by no means an expert on dog training but here is my 2 cents.I easily spent more on training books, videos, etc than I did to actually buy the dog. The best bit ...

Re: breaking a dog of door scratching

We have a bell on the inside of the door that he uses to tell us he has to go out that made housebreaking a breeze. I have one on the outside as well but it doesn't seem to click with him, that and the door is so thick it has to be absolutely quiet inside for us to hear it.

breaking a dog of door scratching

Anyone had any luck breaking a dog of scratching at a door to be let in? I have been working on it for a month with my britt pup trying to get him to bark instead of scratching up the back door to be let in. Taught him to "speak" a few months back and he will do so on command so he knows what I want...

Red Labels had some serious quality issues at one point and that really hurt their sales and perhaps contributed to the line being discontinued. That said 2 of my 3 handguns are Rugers one of which I conceal carry daily so I have nothing against Ruger.

I had the same concern with my britt pup when I brought him home in January and I decided that SIT and STAY would be some of the first commands he learned. My rationale was that he needed to be a good house dog first, in a home with young kids and frequent visitors they are a must, and a good bird d...

Re: How do you protect your dog from snakes and spiders?

Google "snake breaking dogs". Basic gist of it is finding someone who offers to do this, putting an e collar on the dog and putting dog in a field with a number of caged poisonous snakes spread out in cover in a field. When dog smells the snake and goes to investigate he gets a shock on a higher set...
