Get your pup out immediately, and as often as you can. Any wild birds he runs across are great, even tweeters. Planted birds, you might hold off a month or so if he has already been tearing up the tweeters. Gun fire, I introduce pups to gunfire right away, in a way. I go to a FWA that has a gun rang...

Running dogs and training dogs aren't always the same. I run young dogs with a speedy partner as part of my normal puppy development. I think it imprints speed and brush busting on the young dog.

I am not a breeder or geneticist, but I don't think brother/sister litters necessarily means birth defects. If birth defects did take place, I would think that would be enough to disqualify both sire and dam from future breedings.

IMO, It takes quite a dedicated breeder to create a line of dogs. Most aren't even recognized as such until it's in retrospect.

I would switch to a maintenance line of feed when I retire the dog. Anytime prior to that, I feed a premium als feed in different amounts. I bet a couch potato, as you put it, would get all the vitamins, minerals, and calories needed with less than 2 cups a day.

My guess is that the dog wasn't overly cold, maybe tired from chasing the other dogs that had seen much more time in the field. Maybe the older dog intimidated the young dog. Either way, move on to the next day and have fun. Get back to us if you see a pattern starting in this behavior.
