Re: Epagneul Breton (French Brittany)
I have had mine now for 7 months and I have been extremely impressed. As stated, smart as can be and she has.made training very easy. She is VERY affectionate and is a big part of our family. If your dog isn't going to be a part of the family I would look to another breed as these dogs thrive on fa...

Re: Epagneul Breton (French Brittany)
TM79, that's a good lookin' girl you got there and she's a Mooney pup. I've talked to John some as I've been doing my research. He runs a great outfit but you definitely pay for it. It was actually a Gun Dog Mag article interviewing John Mooney on the Epagneul Breton that first introduced me to the...

Re: Epagneul Breton (French Brittany)
TM79, care to share where you got your pup? I like the idea of a natural hunter... They are very natural for sure!! I got my puppy from L'Ecarbot Kennels (and C.PAINTER did as well). After a LOT of research I decide going with L'Escarbot Kennel because they have the look (morphology/conformation) a...

Re: Puppy + Leash
Usually they get bored with it pretty fast. I also like to let the drag a leash through the house and yard most of the time in the beginning. It gets stuck on theing, wraps around the chairs , and causes us some interesting moments. SO BE SURE TO SUPERVISE and always be available to unwind and unst...

Re: Puppy + Leash
Saying you put a piece of rope on it, brings a vision to mind, not a good one. The rope maybe to heavy. My pups, that I buy get a check cord as soon as I pick them up. They wear it all the time! It is made from 1/4" cotton clothes line. There is an overhand knot started that another knot in that en...

Re: Chasing Birds
The good news is that your dog is birdy and runs well. I assume that was the main goal of having the pup with the trainer at 10 mos. (oh, and those "bleep" Gambel's are brutal on young dogs when you are trying to staunch them up. Track athletes...) Roaner, this is one of my concer...

Re: wire cone for dizzy birds
I guess too much of anything would be bad ... Wouldn't this be the case for launchers too? It's a lot more "bulky" than the cone! I think the key word is "too much" !brad27 wrote:I see the potential problem of the dog sight pointing wire cones if used too much.

I've seen a lot of good stuff from that kennel, not this video.
To the OP - here's an article what you could do with wire cages

Re: wire cone for dizzy birds
Agree. Also nothing wrong with discussing "out of the box" dog training ideas, even if it doesn't seem they'll fit anyone's particular system. Diversity of idea is one of the things that makes this board useful, IMO.
Agree... all this discussion is great ... specially for newbies like myself...

Re: wire cone for dizzy birds
It forces the bird to fly instead of running off to escape the pressure. Nothing more frustrating than thrashing around in crp trying to locate a pen raised bird that is on the move. Might not be a better wheel but at least his isn't flat......I applaud his efforts for thinking outside the box. I c...

Re: wire cone for dizzy birds
I thought that was a very thought -provoking video. Interesting to see another use for the launcher. Not sure if the cage is needed. That bird would have stayed asleep on the ground. Maybe I missed something in the use of the cage. I'd like to see the transitioning video. Welcome to the forum. We c...

Hi everybody, I saw this video online ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-owRh1stfM ) and was wondering if anybody have had any experience with this wire cones for planted dizzy birds. They use this cones in transition towards the more natural field situation after the dogs had learned to point and "...

My dads EB Georgia from L'Etoile du Nord Kennels. The most natural hunting dog I've ever seen. She has a motor that doesn't quit, if you didn't stop her from hunting she'd go until she killed herself. I didn't know what people mean't when they said a dog was all bird dog, I know now. Even though sh...
