Re: Habitat Improvements on your training area
We partnered with the DNR to turn one of their shallow, open water ponds into much more usable duck search water. We sunk trees, will be adding lily pads and bull rush as well as adding landings to send dogs from. It's been a successful partnership. They appreciated the habitat improvement and we ha...

At home, they have whatever the lady puts on them. Although I let them breathe and not wear one in the house for a day or two. Hunting I use the tuflex collars. I have bright pink (all lady dogs) and orange.

I'm in the hunt for my first o/u. This will be a do it all gun. Mostly training and hunting. A round of sporting clays occasionally (1 or 2 a year). I have an 870 as my primary duck/goose gun (right now it's my everything gun). I stumbled upon one of these in 12ga, 26" with Mod/IC chokes. Input welc...

That's awesome, I hope to get involved after I move back to WI. Don't do any hunt stuff with vets right now, but I run for Team RWB, it connects veterans and civilians through marathons and triathlons. If any of y'all run/race check it out.

The unfortunate answer is "it's up to you." Doc E is going to see this and say 4 months, others are going to say they don't use it until 1 yr old. I started around 6-7 months. Remember it does not teach the dog, it's to reinforce known commands. Read the dog and introduce it properly and you should ...

I'm not an expert, but I'll say two things... The dog knows the difference between birds and the bumper, with what you're doing is more of a track/retrieve training. Once a week on live birds is just fine. I wish I could put my dog on live, well flying birds once a week.

I'll take the middle ground on this one. I agree that early on the crate should be a safe place, but some dogs will just whine and whine no matter how long you ignore them. Just like some dogs bark simply for the sake of barking. Mine started to whine like this despite getting zero attention or rew...

I don't know if this applies to a lab, but I wish I shut up more with my pup on happy time walks when she was younger. I think I called her in so much I limited her range a bit.
Socialization is key, and definitely time in the crate with and without you.
