Re: Arizona GSP breeders/kennels
Both Don lee and Garbonita produce nice dogs but play different games. My husband brought a female of ours out to Don Lees years back to breed to Slick. Sly was just starting his derby at that time. Howie spent about a week with Don watching his run and was very pleased. Garbonita dogs, Howie has se...

When you watch a 10 -12 week old pup slam into a back seeing another dog relieve it self you know it's natural and not trained.Nick Miles wrote:I think it is a learned behaviour and not genetic at all. Once a dog starts hunting and pointing it's own birds, it will recognise a pointing dog on birds.

There are dogs that back naturally and dogs that have to be taught. Two of the three dogs we have right now are natural backers.

One of my husbands early dogs was Moesgaard blood and others had moesgaard behind them. Nose and retrieve was as good as anything we have today. What the earlier moesgaard in his opinion lacked was water strength compared to his dogs today.

Re: stop to flush drills?
We do stop to flush with a check cord and elec. launcher by bringing the dog in up wind, popping the bird, say whoa the first couple of times and then saying nothing just checking cording. elec. launchers so we have total control of the bird. Stop to flush is our first step in total steadiness.
