Re: Young dog to hunt with older dog
Ive been in your exact situation almost every time i add a pup. I will typically call the younger dog back to me and cast them in a different direction, sometimes 180 degrees from the older dog. If they attempt to go back to following they get a NO and i try to redirect, reinforcement with the colla...

Re: 28 Gauge O/U, the Hot New Thing?
Im not a huge fan of the 28s for pheasants. In the past few years many of my guide clients have started bringing 28s and its been a nightmare. Way to many wounded birds that in my opinion a 20 ga would have put down clean. For smaller birds like dove, chukar, quail and grouse it's almost perfect.

Very few recalls .Purina has also spent a lot of money on marketing and sponsorship deals which is why so many breeders and competitors...

I look at it more as time than distance. If I've got an out of shape dog i start at about 5 min at around 5 to 8 mph and work up from there. If it's an in shape dog it is normally 10 min or so at about 10 to 12 mph and go up from there. Bring plenty of water and keep an eye on the dog.

Re: What age do GSP's stop growing
As mentioned earlier height will max out at a year to year and a half. Muscular growth will max out at two to three years, this can be toned through exercise at any age. Mentally you'll see maturity by age 3, the puppy phase will fade away.

Go with a pickup. SUVs are great but it will always have that dog smell. For what your asking id look into a Ford F150 in one of there upper level packages. Ford's have the best back seat for hauling adults, unless you go Dodge Megacab, and they have a shorter box that makes hauling dogs easier. A t...

The dogs that were put down were given multiple chances and only put down after killing another dog and attacking a kid. Neither was being provoked, according to the owners. I'm sorry I don't care how good they hunt there is no place for dogs like that.

My 2 cents, find another litter. Our dog club has had 2 GWPs put down due to agressiveness and a 3rd banned last year. All were great dogs but attacked other dogs or a person. They were aggressive as pups and even with good training they still couldn't be trusted around other dogs in any way.

For the casual bird hunter I'd say yes. Most FT dogs are thought to be big runners and hard headed. Now we as dog people know that this isn't true, but FT dogs are stuck with a bad rap. I've worked with a few FT dogs and loved their drive, but give me 20 more years and I doubt I will be able to keep...

Native is a very good food. They had some issues a few years ago with loose stools. It was due to an ingredient change, that has since been changed back to original. I feed less and kept weight up even during guiding season. Only reason I stopped using was I get a better deal on Kinetic.
Re: FF Pup
I'd this is a retriever of some kind (lab, Chessie, or golden) you could start the FF process at any time. Just be aware that puppy teeth coming out well cause some issues. If this is a pointer id wait, and keep working on natural retrieve.
