Re: Male English setter breeding
UPDATE: Have been receiving multiple PM's on how much the stud fee is and to answer the question, Im not charging a fee for the breeding. However, I will like to keep a puppy for personal use. The rest of the pups are yours to keep/sell. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Re: Male English setter breeding
Hi Makintrax,
I actually know quite a bit about Loras long gone nixon line. I have hunted with Lora her self and she is a phenomenal hunter. I believe she (lora) came from a kennel in Walnut Illinois. if you dont mind me asking what is the Sire's line?

Re: English Setter Bloodline Traits
Well I have only owned 1 english setter and can tell you a little about it. My pup has Ryman blood in him and from what I can see in him and in his father is that they are particaulry big in size with block shape heads and have long coats. The dame of my pup comes from long gone Nixon. She is a smal...

Re: English Setter Bloodline Traits
Like the above poster said. Check kennels and see what traits you find desirable. Check the stud and dame and that should give you a good idea on the size and coat length. Just remember all english setter pups come out white and stay like this for a little. This is something I didn't know.

thanks for the response. seems like the dame has a pretty good bloodline. the pup is almost a year old now and is doing everything i want it to like holding points, using his nose instead of just sight, and fetches. the only thing he hasnt gotten yet is backing.

Re: Bloodline question?
thanks for the replies. The father was a ryman setter. he had a classic setter point, and large bone structure. the mother on the other hand was smaller and kept a 12oclock tail. As my pup gets older, its funny to see how much he is getting from the parents. For example, he has that large body build...

Re: Sling or no sling?
I'm on the fence about it. A sling does have its benefits when on those long hunts but they can get in the way sometimes. When I hunt my gun is in my hands with the safety on and my hand over the trigger guard to protect from branches hitting the trigger. Also I like the fact that its easier for me ...

Re: Introducing gunfire without any fancy gear
I introduced my dog to gun fire using a .410 then moved up to a 20 and then finally a 12 gauge. The reason for using these gauges is just due to my availability to them. What I did was had a friend stand at a far distance and i played fetch with my dog. as the dumper started to drop from the air he ...

Poodles were originally bred as hunting dogs and are still used as retrievers. Look at Si from duck dynasty he proved Phil and Jase wrong with his poodle.

you should go get it x rayd just in case. try applying gentle pressure to various areas on the tail and move up to were the injury is and see how the pup reacts. if he cries of something along those lines it could be broken. i know my pup had his tail doing funny things on time and i too thought it ...

Re: To Old?
i dont think its ever too late. I mean if the dog is close to death and cant walk then your out of luck there but at 2 years old she still has the mental capability of learning new things. you can show him a couple of times by closing the door and sticking your hand out through the doggy door with a small treat in hand. once he begins to sniff your hand pull your hand slowly inside and the dog should follow. do this a couple of times with and without the treat.
