I think you're overthinking this. 20 x 30 is huge. 5 x 15 would probably be plenty. 7 hours isn't that long to be alone, especially if he is in an outdoor run. A dog house is fine, but honestly a barrel laid on its side with straw in it works just as well. Even better if you put it on a stand about ...

June bugs for mine! Funny cicada story though - a few years ago we had a double hatch (when the 7 year and the 17 year come out at once) - the local specialty ice cream shop made cicada ice cream for a few days until the health department got wind of it. I wasn't in town, so I didn't get to try it....

I got a pup from Craig over the summer, and so far (6 months old) I'm really happy with him. I will say that I have no desire to get into field trialing, and don't have a ton of experience with pointing dogs, but I have been impressed so far. Craig is a great guy, as is the rest of his family.

Concrete is so convenient that I wouldn't recommend anything else, but in Delmar Smith's book, he talks about using sand because it makes the dog's feet stronger. only problem would be urine in sand.no.2 would clean up easy. We have a GSP that is about a month younger than your brit, and went through a similar process when we brought him home. You really need to just ignore the noise at night.
