Purina Pro Plan changes

As an FYI, I noticed the PPP is changing their bags and their PP formulas to some extent. To confirm, I sent Purina an email. Here is the response I received. "Please know that our Pro Plan dry dog range underwent a significant renovation, which includes the expansion of Live Probiotics across all r...

Re: How many gun dogs?

As a follow up, I just bought a young started dog this week and will pick her up when I get back from elk hunting in Colorado. She is a 10 month old female GSP. I got her from John Prince in Kansas. I visited his kennel twice and spent several hours with him and several dogs over birds. John has som...

I want to buy new e collars and gps in the next few months. After doing some research, the 550+ would do everything I need and I really like the idea of a single collar. Unfortunately, it seems like a lot people are having problems with this unit. I have to have a set up that I have confidence in. T...

Re: How many gun dogs?

I really appreciate the great advice given. I think two dogs makes sense for me for some of the reasons mentioned. People used to say two kids were easier than one. They weren't. Two pups won't be either. I get it. I am committed if that is the way it works out. You never know with females and litte...

Re: How many gun dogs?

Disclaimer - we compete with our dogs rather than bird hunt. But the dog population question has similarities between the two. I think first you have to consider your housing situation. If you live somewhere with restrictions on the number of dogs you can keep, it's a whole other game than if you c...

I am now retired and have significantly more time to hunt and work with my dogs than I did in the past. I am going through the process of reserving a couple of new pups next year. I put an AccRite thermometer I got off Amazon in the back to monitor temps and humidity. I think they are pretty much all the same. I have a fan that runs off 12v for air movement that I can run when driving and I also have a portable Ryobi fan that runs off batteries, for when I am stopped.

I recently lost one of my Vizsla's to cancer. She went down hill quickly. We took her to the University clinic to confirm what the local vet thought. My nephew recently got a pup and talked to his vet. His vet recommended putting money away every month into a "dog account". I have my two Vizsla pups on Black Gold Ultimate Puppy. I occasionally mix in some Innova puppy wet. As they get older will switch to the BG black bag and one of their high protein bags depending on time of year. They seem to do well on Black Gold and I can get it at a feed store for a fair price.
