As stated above, protein is a very poor source of energy relatively speaking. Technically, it can be converted to energy but the process is highly entropic by as much as 40%. It also generates heat which for a working dog is probably not ideal especially in a warm climate. The whole basis for diets ...

Get a professional cleaning and then put the dog on a high protein, high fat food. Plaque (and then tartar) can only form in the mouth when bacteria has carbohydrates to feed on. So to the extent you limit carbohydrates especially rice and corn, you should see improvement. The extreme approach would...

Puppies have a digestive system akin to a sausage maker. Stuff comes out the back end when stuff goes in the top. The more active any animal is the more frequently they will poop. Ask any cross country runner. However, I would try Dr. Tim's, get a good quality food. What you have been feeding is not.

Bracco's are splendid animals with great temperaments. However, they don't swim as well as a Spinone, not even close.

If that is important and you want a dog with similar attributes a Spin might better.

Ron has splendid Braccos.

Not all Spinoni have very long coats and they shouldn't. The standard is 1.5 inches. They are excellent retrievers and swimmers and yes they are used for waterfowl.
