Re: duck hunting in missouri
Best hunting is still down here in Louisiana when it gets cold and if you want we can go chase woodcock I live near Lafayette. I might have to take you up on that. Never even seen a woodcock before. Been looking for something more upland to try since I got my GSP. Might could trade you a marsh duck...

duck hunting in missouri
Planning a trip to Missouri in the future. I know there are quite a few C.A.'s east of Kansas city, such as Grand Pass. Anyone ever hunted there before and know what kind of terrain there is out that way?

Teal season is just kicking up. Lizzy got her first teal this weekend
Re: Water
I experienced a similar problem. My pup jumped out the boat when she was young trying to eat a dragonfly. Made her very apprehensive to go in after that experience. To start fixing the problem, I used her desire to retrieve as an advantage. I got her worked up over a dummy, then threw it where she c...

WORK AND PLAY
I hear people talking about using "fun bumpers" as a reward system. Does anyone do this on a regular basis? Newb question I know, but wanted to get some info on specifically how to do it. Is it like a no rules thing or do you make them deliver to hand, hold, etc. ?

I got my B.S. in Geomatics a couple years back. Now I do surveys, GIS, and CAD drafting, mostly for the US Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District.

Re: SIT not DOWN
Many dog's do it and it isn't really a problem. Actually, I don't know why you even care. For your dog, down will be more useful than sit anyhow, unless you teach her to run blinds and demand sit on the whistle. To clarify, she needs to sit in the blind so she can see what's going on (marking falls...

SIT not DOWN
Having a small problem with my GSP pup. She does very well with heel, sit, and down on the lead. I taught her down because we duck hunt out of small boats and pirogues fairly often. Anyway, when she is off lead and I tell her to sit, she sits, but as soon as i walk away, she goes to the down positio...

Re: New to Site and New to GSPs
Well that's good to know. Since i got her, I've been reading a lot about upland hunting. They have a few places north of where i live that have pheasant quail and woodcock. Might give it a go sometime. She's also the first dog that I've attempted to train all by my lonesome so I'm sure I'll have ple...

Fortunately down here it rarely gets below freezing. How are they in the water? Mine has been for a swim a few times, but not for very long

New to Site and New to GSPs
Hey all, I acquired a GSP pup around March and she is my first. I live in south Louisiana so I am mostly a marsh duck hunter. She is a great pup, listens well (most of the time) and is extremely smart. Does anyone on this site hunt marsh with a GSP? She kinda fell into my lap and I can tell already ...
