Steadiness and some yard work retrieving stuff. This should be an early on retrieving drill. Heel him next to you and throw a bumper from you side. I would have him on a check cord and as you throw the bumper, hold on tight because he will probably want to break. As soon as he tries to break, pull h...

Ive got one, I'm pretty sure the same model and everything that you described. I read the same recall on the 12ga. I got worried and called my gunsmith and they said they haven't heard anything on the 16. It has been a while since I shot mine. I've moved to shooting a lot of 20ga with my O/U. It was...

Well, it was a chilly morning on the Delmarva, but we stayed warm searching for birds. Like I mentioned previously, I ran the second brace. We found 2 birds and had retrieves on both. I had the opportunity to back the other dog and my boy just totally blew him off and eventually stole the point and ...

I agree with all the above comments. i've also found that when the dog anticipates the retrieve, they do a lot more creeping. In October my boy would creep a lot after the flush, I stopped allowing him have every retrieve, I would go pick up some birds, he stopped creeping after the flush and shot.

Did you allow her to retrieve every bird shot? I have a 3.5 yr old and was just asked that same question because he used to be steady and I shot birds, then he started breaking on shot. Yes, as far as I know there are gunners so the handler only has to worry about their dog. Retrieving is actually from what I've been told, a major part of this test and a reason more people do this test over AKC field trials.

Because NONE of my family understands it, not even my wife.
The joy of knowing that without my teaching, the dog probably wouldn't be doing what it just did.

I just 'rescued' a pup from someone who apparently didn't want these dogs bred. It was a very sad situation. The pups were said to be 3 months old and had the first round of shots. My parents have barn cats. My dad has mentioned to me that they have too many cats. We need to get rid of the he says. I tried trapping and shooting them with a BB gun. At this point in the game, I'd be more worried about your dog doing consistent retrieves and possibly blinds duck hunting. I think remote sit is an important command for a GSP. Yes, it is more of a retriever command but GSP's have the ability to be very versatile dogs. I've had my GSP out duck hunting many times, he needs to know blinds for where I hunt with the cat tails. I would teach remote sit by sitting him/her on ...

'Here'- the first command I would train with a young pup. Nothing else matters if they don't come back.
