Re: frustration screaming pointer pup.
I have noticed that certain breeds of pointers just do these kinds of things. Specifically if they get a bird on the run, or you miss one, or its a hen. They are frustrated they can't get the bird and that you didn't shoot it. Also seen it on a dead bird blind retrieve. The pointers I have hunted wi...

Re: Training with birds in the snow
I always plant the birds next to cover. I first make an imprint with my boot, then plant the bird in my boot imprint. It gives the bird enough cover where the dog can't see it instantly, and makes them use their nose. Make it easy for the pup until they get the hang of it. Once they get the hang of ...

Scared of the flush?
My yellow lab is almost 6 months old and yesterday we tried flushing and shooting for the first time. The first two live pigeons he smelt, caught as they didn't/couldn't fly. I took one of the birds from him and threw it in the air and shot to simulate the bird being dropped. He was hesitant but eve...

Re: Wont retrieve
I have a 9 week old lab who is chasing down and catching pigeons. I use a very short lead, let it run to the pigeon grab it and call the command come, if he doesn't come i will pull him gently with the lead. He is starting to get it. But sometimes he will drop the bird or dummy when I say come and c...

Re: Older Dog Attacking Puppy
Thanks for the tips! I do practice the crate a lot. At work he spends most of his day in the crate. I wake the puppy up about ever hour or so and we go outside come back in drink water and play for 10-15 minutes and he crashes again. Once he is sleeping I wake him up, stand him up and say kennel. 9 ...

Re: chewing problem wile retrieving
Some may disagree with my post, but I have put screws in some of the bumpers. I filed down the points so they do not pierce the skin. Solved our dogs problems with hard mouth. This would be a good method after teething to try. Also bristle brushes work good for teaching a soft mouth.

How to Create a Mellow Dog?
I am picking my yellow lab up in two days. Lately I have seen a few labs who have just been crazy mellow, but when you mention birdies, or get the training gear or guns out they go nuts! It is exactly what I want. A lazy mellow dog, until it is time to do business. I have had mixed reviews on how th...
