Re: Home Again Microchip
Yeah, I know the chips will still work, I guess I was wondering if there's a national database that vets have access to. The scan just gives them the an alphanumeric or numeric ID. How is that ID then linked to me? I'll call my vet. Update: Just called the vet. Was basically told the same as above. ...

Home Again Microchip
Both of my dogs are microchipped and were registered with "Home Again." I got an email telling me that it's time to renew. It's $18 per dog per year. Is it necessary for the dog to be registered with the microchip company? How does it work when someone brings my lost dog to a vet and he is scanned?

How old is the pup? It seems to me with quail/chukar season just around the corner in NV I would focus on getting him out and learning how to hunt. Sounds like you have access to wild birds, a lot of knowledgeable folks will say let them teach your pup.

Spinone! Also maybe a DD, a Griff or GWP. Go check out the VersatileDogs forum. And I thought the last 3 were the same thing. I am out of my knowledge zone. Re: Goals to have for a 16 week old pup
I really enjoyed our romps in the fields and woods when my pup was young. Mouth shut and eyes open. Watching the pup learn about the world around him/her: the sights, sounds, and scents. Watching their confidence grow with each outing as they venture a little farther away. Chasing tweeties and butte...

I have also read that not sending him on every retrieve can help teach patience/steadiness. Maybe someone with more experience can explain the merits of this approach.

It looks like Bean re-designed the vest since I purchased it three years ago. It looks largely similar but the shell pockets are definitely different. Mine has that same buckle and I've not once touched it.Munster wrote: I must have a newer version because I havent really had any of the issues mentioned.

This will be my fourth season using the bean vest pack. It's pretty well made and can hold quite a bit of water between the bladder compartment and the two bottle sleeves. One of the main compartments is Velcro which doesn't work at all with any weight in the compartment. The shell packets are Velcr...

No reason for this to be one or the other. My pup's first season will open next weekend. I won't shoot anything he mis-handles. I've gotta believe he's going to learn a ton from wild quail and chukar. Is that hunting or training, or both? There is no way I'd spend the next 4.5 months with pigeon/lau...

Do you have good luck running the pup with the prong collar on? This was a controlled training situation in shorter grasses. I agree, you have to be cognizant of the environment when running with pinch/prongs and dragging the check cord. Btw, thats a great looking pup, love the markings. Thanks.

I think you're on the right track with the launcher idea. Just be sure to use a scent bird seperate from the launcher. Plant your scent bird (lock wing pigeon) at least 10 yards from the launcher (loaded with a flyer), and bring your dog perpendicular to the scent bird. Don't let her smell the bird...
