Re: Puppy Vaccinations

I asked my vet about titer tests because I don't care for the idea of unnecessarily vaccinating my dog. She said it costs quite a bit more than just getting the vaccine but I can't remember the details. It's almost time to have that conversation again, maybe the cost of titers has come down.

Check often. I'll do a quick visual scan anytime we're on a water break and often pull a few off that are crawling around on top. Check out the kong wobbler if you have a suitable surface to feed the dog on. Takes my gsp about 10 minutes to eat two cups and adds a little mental stimulation to dinnertime. I really like the carhartt double front work dungaree for most upland hunts. I'll add gaiters if there's snow or a lot of mud on the ground. During the early season I'll wear carhartt (single front) work dungaree. If it's really wet or raining, I'll wear Cabela's waterproof bibs.

I flush with saline and haven't needed a q tip. I find it easiest to straddle the dog and squeeze him between my knees, open the eye with one hand, and squirt with the other. It takes a little practice but you should be able to make it work. It's amazing what can come pouring out of those eyes.
