Re: Puppy Vaccinations
I asked my vet about titer tests because I don't care for the idea of unnecessarily vaccinating my dog. She said it costs quite a bit more than just getting the vaccine but I can't remember the details. It's almost time to have that conversation again, maybe the cost of titers has come down.

Check often. I'll do a quick visual scan anytime we're on a water break and often pull a few off that are crawling around on top. I'll then do a thorough check back at the truck when we're done for the day. Ears, head and neck, armpits and groin all all popular spots. I use a plastic lice comb as we...

I've roaded my GSP off my mountain bike with the walkydog plus 2-4 days a week 2 miles to and from a local reservoir for 6 years (I let him free run when we get to the lake). Check out the kong wobbler if you have a suitable surface to feed the dog on. Takes my gsp about 10 minutes to eat two cups and adds a little mental stimulation to dinnertime. Fwiw, I use Simparica during the hunting season and it's far and away superior to Frontline Plus (in my experience), which I used previously, for tick protection (don't really have flea issues around me). I was a little nervous about using an oral but Frontline wasn't doing the job. I've heard good ...

I really like the carhartt double front work dungaree for most upland hunts. I'll add gaiters if there's snow or a lot of mud on the ground. During the early season I'll wear carhartt (single front) work dungaree. If it's really wet or raining, I'll wear Cabela's waterproof bibs.

Here's my suggestion from someone who was in your shoes about 4 years ago. Search out as much training information as you can digest and develop a plan. Read books, watch dvds. Do this for you, for your dog, and for any dogs in your future if you get hooked. You will find that there is more than one...

I flush with saline and haven't needed a q tip. I find it easiest to straddle the dog and squeeze him between my knees, open the eye with one hand, and squirt with the other. It takes a little practice but you should be able to make it work. It's amazing what can come pouring out of those eyes.
