Re: Best family gundog? Gsp, vizsla, Brit?
The three you listed is a great jumping off point. Brits are very high energy, while my Brit does well in the house... He needs a lot of running. If not, problems or annoying tendencies may arise while in the house. That's not to say this isn't the case with all birddog breeds.

I would go with all three species you mentioned if you don't ponying up the money. Wood duck decoys do well on mallards... something about the black silhouette really draws them in. Mixed spreads do well around here, Im sure it would work for you. If you want to keep it simple, I would go with malla...

Where did the "American" Britts come from? First off... the history of Brittany lineage is clouded with questions. However, it is known that in the mid 1800's English Gentry would travel to Brittany (cultural region in France) to hunt woodcock, bringing with them their pointers and setters. It is b...

While simplistic and more popular among the deer hunting crowd... The muck boot woody sport side zip is what I always reach for, yes in place of my Danners, Rocky's, etc. the ankle and Achilles support is second to none.

Temperament in the house, coat, and size all point to a britt for you. Some smaller flushers will also work well... hadn't seen Boykins mentioned. Another pointer nobody has mentioned... GWP's. Bigger dog, but it will fit your need.

Our pheasant population in Ohio has been wiped out mostly due to the coyote population.... I take em out whenever I can. Had one run within ten yards of me last year during bow season. It was in thick brush... too bad the arrow couldnt get through.
