Re: Wolf or Coyote???
Well...until wolves learn to speak English...I'd have no idea what they would want to do with a coyote. Coyotes have always been a part of the Wisconsin landscape. The reintroduction of the wolf has been a huge success. I'm not a wolf biologist, but I'd think their co-existance is like a highschool ...

Re: Wolf or Coyote???
Once you live in an area with wolves and coyotes, it's pretty easy to tell them apart. The pic you have is a wolf. It's the overall height (legs) and size of the head/nose that's the tell in that pic. Like it was said..the coat isn't that thick. Probably taken later in summer or early fall?? Here's ...

I had always fed thru the first year with a high quality puppy feed. I'm no expert on dog metabolism, wildlife biology, or a vet either. I just had to put the pup on a rice and ground meat (venison) diet after he got the worst case of the trots I'd ever seen. Funny "tick" humor Will  You can buy Frontline, Bio-Spot, K-9 Advantix, etc anywhere it's sold without a script. I'd say it's well worth a couple mouse clicks considering all the $$$$ you save. We have two dogs and a year's worth of Frontline Plus costs $280. We apply every month to be on the s...

You're right on about it being everywhere. I saw on the news last night that Alpo pulled their canned food because they buy some ingredients from the same supplier as Menue Foods. Check out this link for heartworm meds (they do the flea and tick too). This will save you a ton over the vet. You still need a script from your vet for the heartworm, but my bill was cut in half. Good luck!

The other major difference is that Bio-Spot isn't waterproof. If your hunting dog gets in the lake, is out in the rain too long, or your wife decides it's time for a bath...off it comes. Frontline IS waterproof and will last. Bio-Spot also leaves a greasy mess on the back for over a week. Frontline'...

I know I had worried too about when to intro birds. My Brit is the first pointing dog I've had as well. I let him mouth dead ruffs, ducks, woodcock and a couple geese last fall. He was 8 weeks when the seasons opened. Later around 4 months I got him on some planted quail...that was interesting. He w...

I have always reloaded primers into empty hulls and carried an old shotgun (or had a partner help). My thinking is that the dog gets to associate training with the gun as well as hunting with the gun. I had also read somewhere that using a full size gun helps to condition the dog to look where the g...

It's good to keep people informed on that. We deal with Lyme's here as well and it is scary. It seems like there are regionalized strains of it and that one vac doesn't cover everything. I have always thought the more the merrier when it came to shot. For woodcock (and the grouse that go along with them here) I have always shot 8's. Certain jobs require certain skills. Ruffed grouse need the special touch and, IMO, close working dogs. The best habitat I've seen is thick enough that you can't see further than 75 yards.
