Re: Pigeons and Water
We use pigeons at trials here in Australia. Just remember their feathers aren't water repellant like a duck so after a few retrieves they will be really wet, one is good though.

Re: Moving chicks from incubator to brooder, please help.
I will leave mine in the incubator for a minimum of 24hrs, hatching is a big job for a little guy and they need the time to recover, they honestly don't need food or water for up to 48hrs. Every chick gets their beak dipped into the water so they know where it is, and if they don't find the food, I'...

Re: People who hate e collars..
Lots of ignorant people down under who don't understand the benefits and freedom a dog can have if the owner is properly educated in the use of this wonderful tool! (The higher powers of government who have made it illegal to use) It is really dividing the retreiving community at the moment, very so...

I love my sportdog collars! I also use tone to check they are one. But also have used the tone instead of a clicker, works great and dogs respond really well.

Re: hand signals and ecollar use with a deaf dog
We have a lot of negative attitude toward the ecollar here in Australia. People are just too quick to judged before they understand the benefits. This has been a topic of discussion of late. Most comments re the vibrate is that it scares the dog? I don't understand? If you used the vibrate and say ...

Re: Using the ECollar
I've had good experiences stopping a possible argument between dogs, or toning down their attitude. but like you my dog knew where it came from, me. I've also seen a dog with a bark collar on who attacked his kennel mate as he thought that the stim came from him, he was fine and stopped barking when...

Re: chasing anything flying in the yard help???
My GSP (14 months) does the same....robins, blackbirds, nuthatches, you name it. I enjoy watching her natural instincts come out. I figure it helps her learn she can't catch a bird if chased. Enjoy! MI-MAN Mine have realised that if they are quick enough they can catch them before they take off! :?

Re: Anyone ever have problems with snakes?
We have eastern browns and tigers here. You are lucky if you make it to the vet for vaccine (which costs around $1500), unfortunately we only have around 30 mins to get there. Touch wood, haven't had one bitten yet, but did manage to get some avoidance training done this summer with the few that end...

Re-primed shotgun shells work for me. No problem with the noise, clearly loud enough as it causes the dog missing out on a training session to scream his lungs out, drives me insane.

Re: Hard mouth as as a hunting dog and trial dog.
Speaking from experience, I would rather TRAIN a non-retrieving dog than try to fix a hard mouth. But not sure if that's the breeding choice I would make. Still mulling it over, but frankly the more I learn about training the more natural soft mouth in a line or individual becomes important to me. ...

Re: Hard mouth as as a hunting dog and trial dog.
I've had a rotten time with my gsp who is now 9. We have been disqualified too many times for smashing birds, its embarrassing, it must be presentable for the table, and ours are just not acceptable. I've tried everything I could possibly do myself and maybe 1 out of 5 birds he may not put a tooth i...

Black and black and white shorthairs are included in the breed standard all over the world, including the AKC. It is only in the show ring they are disqualified(usa only) not elsewhere.

Hi guys, my name is lara. I'm from near Canberra, Australia. I'm a mum of 2 boys and 3 b&w Gsp's. my dogs and I love retrieving trials. I have a new pup out of Australia's first grand field champion, so big hopes for this little guy! I'm really enjoying this site.
