Re: Minnesota Ruffed Grouse
I couldn’t get out Saturday due to work, but went out this morning. Man, talk about heat and humidity! I got started earlier than I usually do (I like to let the birds get down and walk around some in the morning) but the temps forced my hand. Even at 7 AM it was 68 and like a sauna! Anyway, I hunt...

Re: What energy boost/snack do you use?
Since dogs digest food much slower than humans, there is nothing you can do for a quick pick me up, although that myth still persists. From your comments it appears you already understand that, and want to supplement his nightly food intake with something will help him over the long-run. I always f...

Re: Upland Hunting Clothes
Getting close to the season for many and started for some. I figured I chime in and add a thing and confirm others. Most folks that have hunted for some time have figured things out, so this is more for those who haven't and the original poster. For the field chasing birds, I think about five things...

Re: Minnesota Ruffed Grouse
I'm interested to follow this thread. I'm a grouse and woodcock hunter from NH recently moved to Grove, OK. I have a new puppy (Llewellin) and am planning a trip to Minnesota next season with a year old. My Tucker is too old to make that trip this year and the pup--Max is just a baby. I would like t...

Re: From NH to Oklahoma
You and Tucker are welcome with us anytime. Meeting new hunting buddies and their pups and learning from their experiences is what it's all about. Plus Coop's heard all my lies before. If you hadn't been there to carry some of the storytelling load, I would have been forced to exaggerate and embell...

Re: Pigeons Without Launchers
I agree. I’m against any punishment around birds.
In a nutshell, it seems to me, birds teach and we encourage.
Training ought to work around those principals.
IMO.

Thanks a bunch, zrp and coop.
I had a great weekend and your willingness to mentor is over the top.
Looking forward to more walking the dogs and chasing those cute little birds.
Llewellins Rule!

Re: Pigeons Without Launchers
I would start with the pigeon on a tether or attached to a length of garden hose that will let the pigeon fly. Tie some paracord around the pigeons feet with two slip knots. Tie another length of line to the middle of the cord between the pigeons feet. Attach a length of garden hose (12-18") to the...

The Citori was designed by Miroku some years after Browning and Miroku begun their relationship.
The Citoris were sold by Browning, but the same design Marketed under the Miroku mark.
I’ve owned both.
Miroku makes them to this day, including the 725.

Grouse and Woodcock?
English Setter...hands down.
Hearth and Field.
Desire and love of birds, aim to please, easy to train and oh so handsome 'floating' through the northwoods.
I would look at Ryman types and Llewellins.

Re: We all go through it.
Yup---we love our dogs. I have long said that dogs were specifically and purposely designed as a companion for humans. I've lost a bunch of friends over the years and although I'd like to be able to say they are never gone--they are indeed and they always leave a hole. I lost my Old Hemlock Bromley ...

Re: Self trainer from Kansas
I'm a male and 30 years old. I'm a Veteran who has a lot of time on his hands so I figured getting a GSP would keep me busy. Boy I was right. I've never been hunting but have shot plenty of times. I aspire to hunt pheasants, prairie chickens and pretty much anything else. My pup is 7 months old and...

Re: From NH to Oklahoma
I'm considering heading toward the OK panhandle to find walk-in access and the Flint Hills. I found this on the Kansas site. Quail – Quail hunting in the Flint Hills should be comparable to last year. The region recorded a record index of whistling bobwhites this spring and the highest regional whis...

Well folks, if this forum layout had the ability to notify you somehow, without having to religiously check it, I would’ve saved a 8 hr trip there and back to the breeder. I was 45 minutes away before I had the bright idea to check the post a second time and I got all your responses. This response ...

Do you homework and acquire a good dog of proven hunting stock. Allow the birds to teach the dog after solid basic obedience. Reinforce the good stuff. Most important: do your level best to make your friend believe you are the most loved and spectacular being alive. He/she will do their level best a...

From NH to Oklahoma
Hello folks--haven't visited for a while. Just moved to Grove, Oklahoma from New Hampshire and I'm looking forward to new adventures hunting different birds in different terrain. Big country out this way and I was pleased to learn that there is some decent trout water not far as well. I'm a semi-ret...
